Acting FAA Administrator:

Light sport aircraft will be allowed to have four seats, a higher maximum takeoff weight,  and an electric motor. 

In addition, drone builders will be able to use light sport aircraft, which means electric four seat drones are coming.

Current light sport rules:

A light sport aircraft must meet the following requirements:

    Max. Gross Takeoff Weight: 1,320 lbs
    Max. Stall Speed: 45 knots (83 km/h; 52 mph) CAS
    Max. Speed in Level Flight: 120 knots (220 km/h; 140 mph)
    Max. Seats: Two
    Max. Engines / Motors: One (if powered)
    Cabin: Unpressurized


Training requirements for a sport pilot certificate with airplane category —

    A minimum of 20 hours flight time including:
        15 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor.
        5 hours solo flight.
    Flight training must include at least:
        2 hours cross-country flight training.
        10 takeoffs and landings to a full stop.
