Well seems I could be wrong with thinking he could bench 600lbs raw.
Thanks Fortress & Hazbin For your input.
I’ve never bothered with being remotely interested in assisted shirt
Lifting, so know very little about what they’d bench without them on.

Next they’ll have a fork lift truck assisting them “Lift”  ::) 5000+lbs
Totally fraudulent & pathetic endeavour shirted bench press  ::)
Or they may install a giant spring onto someones ass so he can claim a 2000 pound squat!  ;D

I can't respect benching 450 to a grand with a shirt.

If Eric Spoto hit 1100 with a shirt, it would mean something to me.

Rychlak didn't bench more than 500 raw. So 500 lbs of his lift was assisted from the bottom by his bench shirts.

When he does his equiped heavy lifts you can see his entire ribcage flattening out from the huge pressure from the shirt (probably about 500lbs pressure on his ribcage.)

Never understood how assisted lifting became popular in the first place. You'd think there just wouldn't be an audience for it.

Luckily raw Powerlifting is back in popularity.
There's nothing like the old-school guys (MacDonald, Teddy, etc).

Here is a good example of how fucking stupid this "bench shirt" shit is.  Both vids below are Jake Anderson from Westside Barbell.  Both were taken in 2010.  The first vid is supposed to be his first 500 raw press.  The spotter is pulling on the bar.  I'd say he's probably good for 455 - 475 in a real competition.  The second video is him attempting 750 with a bench shirt.  The shirt rips, and the weight completely crushes him (serves him right).  In Jake's case, I'd say his shirt was adding 300 lbs.

i was at the Arnold one year, and a guy was attempting a 750lb bench.
he couldn't get it to touch his chest so he failed his first attempt.
tried again and failed his second attempt for the same reason.
third attempt he asked for 800lbs.  he touched his chest and made the lift.

so, at the point 2 inches above his chest; it wasn't 750, it wasn't even zero pounds -
it was less than zero pounds as he couldn't even pull the bar down to touch his chest.

when you see them benching with 6-8 inches of boards on their chest they so no point training that
range as it is 'free' because of the shirt. (not that it is even a shirt anymore.

Not necessarily.

A lot of these multi-ply bench blasters have seriously unproportional ability through the stroke of a press. Such focus on lifting in a shirt, using boards, etc. robs them of considerable performance development the first several inches off the chest.

If I recall, Gene himself said he’d never pressed, in training, more than 450 without a shirt. And he never would attempt it.

It’s very possible he might have been pinned under much less than six.

That’s fucked.450 raw to 1000 shirted.Ive always hated assisted lifting.

a bit of a boiling frog situation.

first shirts were just to hold the shoulders in a power position.
then people realized if you thickened them you could lift more.
gradual increases up to today's madness.

same with kids styles. they became so extreme kids are now getting their peckers cut off
and buying fake tits (males) to get attention.

Why not just lift what you`re capable of ?

I don`t get it personally.

Good grief. Can't the tensile strength of the material of the shirt be established somehow?

Last I checked , the raw ( no bench shirt) record was 738 lbs .
https://www.topendsports.com/testing/records/bench-press.htm

Wearing one of those straight jacket bench shirts , it's around 1100 lbs
( 1103 lbs)
https://www.chron.com/neighborhood/humble/news/article/Meeker-sets-world-record-with-1-102-lbs-bench-9525980.php

Using basic math the difference is  1103 - 738 = 365 lbs

So , about 1/3 ( a third ) of the bench shirt lift is due to the shirt.
That's NOT assistance, it's a substantial part of the lift.

What's next? Try benching a ton ( 2000 lbs) by bouncing the bar off a truck shock strapped on your chest? LOL :D
pretty retarded logic there for a physics teacher

the 738 lifter(russian monster dont remember name) has never tried shirted lifts. If he did that seriously you would probably see 1200+lift. But why would he bother everyone just thinks it's fake BS, which it is.

This is an incredible press.  Good form, none of that 3" range of motion shit.  Just a good solid press.  Rychlak would never come close to this.

Kirill Sarychev

738. Raw. With a perfect technique and legit pause.

Let that sink in.

Only five men have ever broken seven. Five. And a couple of these with hugely questionable lifts (no pause, compression-press, etc.).

Kirill is a true freak among freaks.

P.S. Scott Mendelson held both the raw (715) AND geared press records at the same time. The former stood for about nine years. Then Eric Spotto set a new record with a 722.

Both Scott and Eric annihilated themselves trying to best their, well, best.

Then along came the monolithic Russian.

Kirill.

Simply otherworldly.

Hail.

Can't apply math in a linear fashion to explain the difference in those two lifts.
