I'm not excusing ex-congressman's Gary Ackerman's possible actions when he was a Boy Scout camp director, but the alleged sexual abuse happened in 1966, more than 50 years ago. The plaintiff was 17 years old at the time. He would be at least 70 years old today, which is past the age (55 years) for a lawsuit or criminal charges.

Both the State Assembly and State Senate approved changes in the Child Victims Act, allowing sex abuse victims to sue and file criminal charges until they reach the age of 55, and opening a window for suits for up to a year for those previously frozen out by the current law. Currently, lawsuits are limited to those under the age of 23, one of the more restrictive in the country.

You definitely have a point. People do change. Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings should have been limited to his legal career and not an unproven personal historical event. It is getting to the point where no one is going to consider a career in public service. Why have your entire life dragged through the mud, in order to be a politician or public servant. Society is hungry for scandals. Many people live in some global reality show. It's like we get off on bringing people down. Unless someone's behavior is pertinent, it should be nobody's business.

Right now, the Me Too movement has permeated our everyday lives in ways which benefit almost no one.
