For me at least, taking the "social" out of learning speeds up the learning process many fold. It's tailored to you, not the collective class. If you want or need to know a subject, online curriculum like Khan Academy can be accelerated and excitedly paced whereas elementary/high school was time wasting and torturously plodding :-\. And when you start to get bored your mind wanders, compounding the problem. Brick and mortar college is slightly better than brick and mortar high school. Online learning is magnitudes better for many people.

Are you still in school?

Listend to Jordan Peterson the other day, he said if your kid isnt popular with other kids by the time they are 4 they are pretty much fucked for life.. its too late to do anything else after that...

Nonsense.

Nonsense.

Agreed.  There are 4 year old kids who have little or no contact with their peers and most do just fine.

Nonsense.

I will take the opinion of Jordan over an anonymous poster on getbig thanks,,,

There are several studies mentioning the link between lack of socialization or instability in your parental relationships at a young age and mental disorders and social withdrawal tendencies. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15839492
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2769557

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11444483
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15144489

This is just a small collection of studies about social withdraw and possible causes. There are more sources out there available however there is no need to link every source on the internet. This is what I have found linking lack of social interaction before the age of 4 and long term social problems that lead to a separation of classes almost. While one class of people don't experience these things it leads them to not interact with those who have and those who have interact with their peers.

I was an only child who was almost exclusively around adults prior to attending school. IMO, there is truth to what is said in the links you posted. What doesn't wash with me is the belief that who you are at the age of four is who you will be for the rest of your life.

So? That's okay isn't it? Anyway, this is a discussion more so than an argument.

joswift: the human dictionary.  ;)

I perfer a discussion or a conversation. An argument seems more contentious. But then, I'm something of a 'snowflake'. So, there's that.

Every day, I see these poor kids walking home from school hunched over with a backpack full of textbooks. It’s as though the tech revolution never happened in the public school system.

In 50 years time, people are going to look at back in disbelief at the inefficiency of the education system.

No shit, they are still using the Prussian educational model of the 19th century.  A few schools like the Delphi Academy in Oregon have a much better model and have graduating school at 16 and going to MIT, Caltech, Harvard.  For a small school they have loads of success stories like Sky Dayton, the creator of Earthlink and a bunch of other internet startups.
