For me at least, taking the "social" out of learning speeds up the learning process many fold. It's tailored to you, not the collective class. If you want or need to know a subject, online curriculum like Khan Academy can be accelerated and excitedly paced whereas elementary/high school was time wasting and torturously plodding . And when you start to get bored your mind wanders, compounding the problem. Brick and mortar college is slightly better than brick and mortar high school. Online learning is magnitudes better for many people.

I was an only child who was almost exclusively around adults prior to attending school. IMO, there is truth to what is said in the links you posted. What doesn't wash with me is the belief that who you are at the age of four is who you will be for the rest of your life.

No shit, they are still using the Prussian educational model of the 19th century.  A few schools like the Delphi Academy in Oregon have a much better model and have graduating school at 16 and going to MIT, Caltech, Harvard.  For a small school they have loads of success stories like Sky Dayton, the creator of Earthlink and a bunch of other internet startups.
