is there a thread or good read on this?

Google "Colorado Experiment".

"He talked about the famous "Colorado Experiment" done back in May, 1973. "I had an accident and had gotten gangrene in my hand and had to quit training for six months," he said. "My weight went down to 190. Mr. Jones said, 'Go down, see how far you can get.' I went down to 168; I was really skinny. I was on 500 calories a day." Jones then brought Viator from the Nautilus headquarters in Florida to Colorado, where - under medical supervision - "they caged me, force fed me, trained me like an animal." Despite problems acclimating to the Colorado high country, Casey gained 45 pounds in 28 days (it was actually 63 pounds, he lost bodyfat)."

thank you

so didn't anyone chalk this up as muscle memory?

modern day example is Von Moger. guy was 240lbs to 250lbs - got injured down to around 200 lbs and back up over 250lbs in a very short time... not 28 days

but muscle memory is the first thing that comes to mind

Some did, and modern writers certainly bring it up. It's an artifact of a time when magazines didn't talk steroids, and they all wanted Arthur Jones's money.

gotca.. thanks for the info. i remember seeing/hearing it in prior threads but the links help me understand it more

my 2 cents:
super specimen bber starves down to 168 lbs.... then gets on  gear, food, sleep routine and hyper responds back

Kevin Levrone and Von Moger also come to mind with depleted then blow back up.

His training video was funnier than Hell though........I`ll give him that.

It was that video that made me realise that he is definitely 100% clinically delusional.

Nobody who claims to lift like a demon would ever post that shit.  Never in a million years.

I can tell he's at that point where the people around him just let him be.  Just be 320 pounds of blubber, my man.  Yeah, you're the man.   Oh yeah, you're a demon!
