I like to comfort people having stressful birthdays. Like if someone is 'turning 40.' Remind them that their first birthday wasn't celebrated at the moment of their birth. They 'turned 1' at the end of a year on the planet. So their 40th birthday marks the end of their 40th year. You've been 40 all year long and now you're beginning your 41st year. The time to feel bad about being 40 was at the conclusion of your 39th year which was 12 months ago.
