U.S. Air Carriers Lose More Than $10 Billion a Month – Report

U.S. airlines from American Airlines Group Inc (AAL) to Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) are collectively burning more than $10 billion in cash a month, Reuters reported referring to an industry trade group testimony.

According to the testimony prepared by Airlines for America ahead of a U.S. Senate hearing on Wednesday, the airline industry is averaging fewer than two dozen passengers per domestic flight as the coronavirus-related restrictions have brought air travel to an almost complete halt.

The four largest U.S. airlines are averaging just 17 passengers per domestic flight and 29 passengers per international flight, according to the testimony.

“The U.S. airline industry will emerge from this crisis a mere shadow of what it was just three short months ago,”

United and American Airlines took the bailout money, so they can't start layoffs till September 30th.  After that, It's going to get ugly.

There is a reason why they have select flights.  Airlines have certain time slots that they get allotted for airports.  If they give them up another airline can take it and when things get back to normal they won't get their old time slot back and it could mean losing business long term.

They make all their passenger profit off of 1st/business class anyways. So air travel will once again become a thing for the wealthy. And hauling freight too :)

Their stocks should all be close to zero now.  Same for cruise lines, hotels and most restaurants.

The entire stock market is a shit-show.  There is NO market.  A private bank owns it all now... it's called the federal reserve.

Trillions and trillions of dollars is simply created keyed into existence on the Fed's computer.  If they can create money out of nothing, no one should have to work or pay taxes.  The entire financial and economic system is scam.

I’m flying July 1st international to the Caribbean and both planes are full. 737/757

I’d like to hear Palumboism take on this.

The 757 has over 200 seats.  Are 200 people going to be willing to get on a full aircraft in two months?  I think it's doubtful.

When I booked, I did four tickets first class. When I booked the sitter, all first class was full and there was only one comfort left. I didn’t check the others, but assumed it would be full because that flight always is. I figured my connector would be an MD88 rather than a 737 though if it was that empty.

Exactly. That’s what Ben Mallah was saying. How are they even trading at their current prices when they’re burning that much in losses?

I've been saying it since 2008... the whole thing is a fucking scam.

People need to stop paying on EVERYTHING... taxes, credit card debt, student loans, mortgages, utility bills, etc.  Let the Fed use their funny money machine to pay for all of it.

Another scam...
City and federal workers pensions are totally absurd, some are collecting $200K, $300K, even $500K per year, not counting their healthcare bennies.  This shit has to stop... NOW.

Well, that's a nice sentiment...but sadly, quite the opposite has been happening as I have been paying attention to the obvious.

Would you care to explain how the airlines could operate on a small percentage of passengers to start since you seem so knowledgeable? That's just a tidbit of what is going on of course but let's hear how much wiser you are than say Warren Buffett, who buys and never sells anything and is selling airlines and retail stocks like his paper is on fire. In fact the only stock he's buying is his own - Berkshire Hathaway....which is interesting and def not bullish.

Yes - The whole financial “money” system is a complete Scam - A house of cards I’m surprised it hasn’t collapsed long ago. Sadly we’re all plugged into the Farce.
