Is it really possible to build sq ft in the US to that finish and fitting standard for that little?

Seems incredibly low to me.

In some locations it is.  The land is cheap.  The location not in demand.

May be the lot is only $25k or less of the value. 

Not in other places though like Cali, NY, or NJ near certain locales where demand is high.
