My litmus test is that 98% of this board would be out of a job if we apply these rules, and that can't be right. Unless there's an explicit statement of intention to commit violence which is criminally actionable, like Weeping China Doll did, then anything goes and people who are not your intended audience can just butt out, including your employer and the owner of Twitter.

I don't agree the discussion is late because this isn't an occasional celeb in the public eye putting out a one way statement on an indiscriminate broadcast. Every week now it's Joe Blow interacting online, maybe he mispeaks, maybe he's a jackass, someone takes offence, and he's fired or banned or canceled in some way. Instead of following the Left's playbook, the Right would do well to take the high road. Let discussions proceed and may the best ideas prevail. If we don't put the brakes on cancel culture then the internet is dead.

Eggshell walking is no solution once the Feelings Police are in charge. Anything which befalls you is then fine, even complete ruination over some lamebrained notion you once shared, because you should have known better than to express an unsanctioned idea. That pit has no bottom.

Bro I understand your point and its 100% valid but weve NEVER had complete freedom of speech, ever.

The sad part is Feeling Police are in charge and at this moment there is no going back. Its hit or miss on who gets sacrificed and who gets a pass.

Jimmy Kimmel looks like he's going to be fine with his 15 year old blackface transgressions, but Kevin Hart lost out on hosting award shows for 10 year old gay jokes.

That said certain positions are held to "higher" standards than others, a teacher can't say and do certain things even though a custodian at the same school can get a free pass for the same actions.

A black teacher cant say kill a white baby.

Light bulbs going on over heads. "Omg I've been arguing in favor of canceling someone because I found what he said offensive."

It's ok. You don't have to admit it.
I don't take offense at what he said on it's surface, it's his position as a special ed teacher that is alarming. You can't be a waiter and talk about pissing in peoples drinks without repercussions, you can't be a mechanic and talk about recycling used motor oil from one car to another without repercussions, you can't work with children and talk about killing them without repercussions. Pretty simple isn't it? Everyone gets the point you're desperately trying to defend, but it doesn't apply here. Like screaming fire in a crowded theatre.

Huh. I just clearly stated that people shouldn't get canceled for traditional right wing views like the biological sex thing. I even called it a witchhunt. Is the right seeking to alienate people with impossible standards to the same degree the rabid left does?

You're not gonna sell me on a team ideology. Dispassionately reasoning through issues, and understanding the principles being endorsed takes more work but it's got its benefits. Namely that you have well considered reasons of your own for your beliefs, rather than "Our side right, their side wrong." Right. But why?

So craft a case for canceling this guy but not canceling Rowling, and define for me principles, if any, which you extract from that. I'll honestly consider it and not just blindly insist I'm right. Because I'm not a team guy, I'm willing to hear other points of view and mull over their merits rather than just cancel them out of hand.
Again, you weren't making these posts when leftist liberal were doing the cancelling. I can't believe you've chosen this time, when a black man has called for the correct way to murder a white baby, to speak up and show concern about freedom of speech. Says something about you.

The "let the conversation continue" argument I'm making is nothing new or original, but now is precisely the time for the Right to make it in defense of this BLM clown.

Think this through. Make it in defense of a canceled conservative and get ignored. Make in defense of this guy and people will have to admit you're sincere. And it'll make next week's public execution by the Feelings Brigade appear petty unless they manage to dig up a real winner. It's a good strategy, and the Right needs one because it is getting its ass kicked in the propaganda war. Anyone who dares question whatever crackpot narrative they table is instantly villified, so if you find defending this guy's right to be wrong too distasteful then find another way, and soon, because you guys own no ground at all these days.

Fwiw I've rolled my eyes plenty of times at the Looney Left but I'll never be sufficiently boogaloo for you since I'm not boogie at all. But, again, strategy. Excluding those who aren't deemed sufficiently True Believers introduces an off-we-go-into-the-weeds dynamic, which the Left has fallen victim to and it's what makes them so laughable. Leave the purity tests to the SJW cannibals, welcome headscratchers whose world view is a work in progress, and your ranks will grow. Go kick that around whatever camo echo chamber you frequent, if you dare. Let me know how it goes.

Correct. I wouldn't want that dude around my kid. But like I said, it's a really opportune moment to make the No Cancel argument and demonstrate a clemency which the Virtuous Left has made clear it lacks.

The old "take the higher ground" approach has been tried by people on the right for too long. The countless assaults for wearing a Trump hat, the constant doxxing of Trump supporters attending rallies, the destroying of businesses and lives has gone on for too long to continue to take the high ground. The tide must turn at some point.
If you prefer to turn the other cheek and lead by example, great, when the lefties are done clapping your cheeks, you'll see the light.

Those that "turn the other cheek" need to ask themselves this:

Is the person striking them doing so in offense to the Christ or is simply because they're being assholes to Conservatives?

It's pretty much the latter.   They love to quote the Word to protect their dumbass from justified retaliation.  These subhumans deserve deportation to muslime lands.  Quislings all of them.

You seem very much in the trench and not perceiving the field broadly. The battle is political. A few wild eyed guys screaming WE AREN'T GOING TO STAND FOR THIS isn't going to win shit. Tit for tat response won't. You don't have the media to stoo it being presented slanty. Proactive deeds would be disastrous and only give the left more ammo. You can't act. You can't react.

Your opponent has the willing political support of part of the country, the grudging support of another part coerced by social pressure, and have effectively silenced opposition. Because they're virtuous, anyone opposing them is bad, and bad people with their bad opinions shouldn't get to talk. That's the lay of the land, right?

Their position is predicated on their virtue. Remove that and they have nothing. You're not turning the other cheek. It's a political operation to erode their support and bolster your own.

If this guy went on Tucker he'd eat humble pie because it's the way back. He's admitting to a lack of virtue, and Tucker could be so magnanimous. We've all made a post after one beer too many. We don't want to burn you down and salt the earth. We don't do that. Which industry do you think you'll move into? Etc. Same shit the Left pulled, with the public shaming, but you do it nice because we're nice people.

Now the right has shown the virtue of forgiveness. Publicly. And the Left's is in question. It's good theatre and would win support because it's immediate and obvious. That's what the Right needs. Continuing to argue economic policy, even showing poor consequences of socialist policies won't sell. It takes more thinking than people are willing to invest. People are dolts. You need a puppet show like the one the Left puts on where someone has a white hat and someone has a black hat. That sells.

I get that people want sangre por sangre but it's not gonna win the day. You have to take out their pedestal of Virtue in a way that even Donny Dumbass says "Dey not so nice as dey say dey is." Imo put revenge asside and be politically effective.
