Adam Zaborowski, 35, of Slatington, was hit in the buttocks and leg when police shot him Saturday and will likely be in the hospital another day or two, attorney John Waldron said Monday.
“He’s lucky, considering what happened,” Waldron said. “The police, when they’re getting fired upon, they shoot to kill.”
On Monday, Bethlehem Township police released surveillance video they say shows Zaborowski firing a handgun in the air and again at an employee who confronted him over not wearing a mask and stealing cigars.
The incident happened late Friday morning at Cigars International on Nazareth Pike. Zaborowski was charged with attempted homicide and other offenses. Zaborowski was himself shot and wounded by police on Saturday when he fired at officers who were trying to serve an arrest warrant at his home, officials said. One of the Slatington officers was shot in the arm, but the wound was relatively minor.
Police say Zaborowski entered the cigar store and was asked to leave because he wasn’t wearing a mask. Zaborowski was offered the chance to select his purchase and wait outside for it. But Mat Cook, the director of retail operations for Cigars International, said Zaborowski ignored the offer, walked around the store, took two cigars and left.
