Me and my wife buy new cars..she trades hers in after a few years if she finds something she really likes..me? I research the hell out of everything I buy and drive it until the wheels fall off. So, the $80k I spent on my truck is absurd! But, it stings less knowing I’ll probably have it close to 20 years

I have the same mentality from growing up without money. I drive a car till I have to junk it. When I was working I got a brand new work car to take home every three years but it was only for work. My wife had a decent car but I drove a Tercel for my run around car. I took care of it and drove it for 17 years with no repairs just maintenance. Every time I turned the key in 17 years it turned on and the motor hummed.  Sold it to a college kid who drove it for 5 additional years putting massive mileage on it before the head gasket went and he junked it. He use to send me pictures of it all over the east coast.  ;D

My last long term truck was a 2005 Ford excursion diesel that I got brand new in 04. I went through 2 engines in it. I am mechanically inclined so all the work was done by myself. I would still be driving it but someone offered me what I felt it was worth so now I have a new truck. I will spend a fortune on a vehicle..but it’s also mine for damn near ever lol

The wife and I both drive older cars. I put my effort into paying off my house. I have about 4 years to go.

Thats how ive been forever. Always bought a slightly-used car (mainly CR-V's of course), drove it until it died somewhere, and left it where it died to be towed away.
Never wanted car payments, always put at least 500.00 extra a month on a mortgage. Paid off my house many moons ago, also have no car-payments. (Paid off a 15 year mortgage in 8 years).
Everything went/goes into 401K where age 60 retirement is now reality.

For those who enjoy 'em (cars), great hobby. I never wanted anything more than just to get back and forth to work, etc...

Those engines were junk. My friend had an 05 Excursion with the 6.0 and it blew up twice i think.

Do you still have the turbo busa?

I buy all my cars 1-2 years old with 10-15k miles.

They are basically brand new and you save a ton of money.

I've spent a lot of money on sports cars over the last 24 years. Always liked to go fast.

My good friend has his own Dental Offices (three of them) and makes about a million a year.

He drives an old Honda Accord with 200k miles on it.

But his wife gets a brand new Merc SUV every 2 years.

Tax write off on the depreciated value :)

I would have had my first house paid off many decades ago but with a growing family I bought what for me is a large dream house. Still ahead of the curve paying it off. Roughly 4 years to go on my second house. Paying off a house using an amortization schedule as a guide is a smart idea. Saves you so much in interest payments. I retired at 52. I work part time now just to take care of incidentals like vacation and sudden bills like broken appliances.  An expensive car is a waste of money considering the depreciation. Yes, I know cars are appreciating because of covid and a shortage of parts but that's temporary. True, I would love to have a homerun car but being able to retire young, having sent my kids to private school and having a house paid off is more important to me. I have a 1400 sq ft gym in my 9 foot ceiling basement that I don't count in the square footage which is a dream for me. Maybe I will buy a homerun car when I down size and have all the equity in my pocket. My goal is to stay in my present house till I die which I hope won't be today.

This is the answer.

I go up to 20-25k miles since I don't drive much and it evens out after a few years.

Look for 2 year models coming off lease.  Often they are in great condition, and the dealers want to get them off the lots fast.

I never had to replace any engine…at 300,000 miles I just did it anyways..went with a kill devil stage 2..‘‘twas epic!

The 6.0 is a great engine if you have a good balance of common sense and mechanical abilities.

Brother, I haven’t owned a bike in 6 years..surprisingly I don’t miss them
