Years ago I got a cease and desist letter from Sony for downloading torrents.

Best practice is to ignore any of these types of letters. Responding to them actually alerts them to come after you.

i have downloaded countless torrents since the 2000's off of piratebay and never had a problem

mostly movies made pre 2000

with all the crap they promote nowadays, i am happy not to give hollyWEIRD any of my money

Truthfully, I don't know whether it is fiber optic or not. What I do know it that my grandson and son-in-law who are into streaming and downloading via BitTorrent never complain about speed. I do occasionally get emails from Comcast informing me about copywrite violations using BitTorrent. It used to freak me out because I was convinced Comcast would terminate my account. But nothing I say seems to make a difference, so I gave up.

Your family members should be using a VPN before they use BitTorrent. They should also be leechers instead of seeders. After I have downloaded a movie I move it somewhere and remove it from Utorrent so I am not sharing it over the network to other users. The movie and recording industry really have a hardon for seeders since they are helping to spread the stuff. Best approach is to get in and grab what you want on a VPN and then get out.

This might come back to bite you in the ass eventually. Might or not worry you I guess - are you sexual?

i never used a VPN, and i was never a seeder i always removed the file after it finished downloading

They go after seeders of new movies and tv shows mostly, not some movie from 1970.

You can get a VPN very cheaply today.  Skip the free VPNs, they keep records.
