This is exactly what I was hoping someone would do

The conservative justices on the  SCOTUS ruled last week that states can craft laws that are literally outside of their (SCOTUS) ability to review or nullify.

This is what the now castrated chief justice said about Texas abortion bounty hunter law

Quote
The clear purpose and actual effect of S. B. 8 has been to nullify this Court’s rulings. It is, however, a basic principle that the Constitution is the “fundamental and paramount law of the nation,” and “t is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is.” Indeed, “f the legislatures of the several states may, at will, annul the judgments of the courts of the United States, and destroy the rights acquired under those judgments, the constitution itself becomes a solemn mockery.” The nature of the federal right infringed does not matter; it is the role of the Supreme Court in our constitutional system that is at stake.

Newsom says he will use Texas abortion law tactics to restrict assault weapons

"If that's the precedent then we'll let Californian's sue those who put ghost guns and assault weapons on our streets," Newsom said.

WASHINGTON — California Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Saturday he plans to use the same tactic from Texas's abortion law to target assault rifle sales after the Supreme Court declined to block enforcement of the law.

In a statement, Newsom said he has directed his staff to collaborate with the legislature and Attorney General Rob Bonta to draft a bill that would allow private citizens to file lawsuits "against anyone who manufactures, distributes, or sells an assault weapon or ghost gun kit or parts in the State of California."

"If states can shield their laws from review by federal courts, then CA will use that authority to help protect lives," Newsom said in a tweet.

The announcement follows a ruling from the Supreme Court that abortion providers in Texas can proceed with lawsuits challenging S.B. 8, the nation's most restrictive abortion law that bans the procedure after the first six weeks of pregnancy. But the court declined to block enforcement of the law while court battles continues, so the law remains in effect.

The ruling provided a narrow victory for abortion clinics. Texas had sought to make the law nearly impossible to challenge in federal court. The state argued that abortion providers could not contest the law in advance but had to wait until they were sued for violating it.

I guess you forgot Cali only follows the laws it wants...it actually set the precedent for this.

Anyway, it is just strengthening state's rights. It's going to result in balkanization of the USA but that is happening anyway.

Who would have thought that the less American you make a state, the less Americans tend to want to live there?

There are plenty of rights that have been determined to exist and are protected by The Constitution that are not explicitly listed in the document

You know that...don't you?

That's what the SCOTUS used to do

BTW - What part of The Constitution says that convicted felons can't vote?

Tell that to the people getting robbed at gunpoint  while dining at restaurants and the woman robbed in her driveway.

People in Beverly Hills are arming up because Newsome and the DA won't allow the police to protect them.

You're ok with Newscum trashing our Constitutional right because there are conservatives on the Supreme Court? Way to cut off your nose to spite your face. You liberals really seem to enjoy doing that.

Or the LAPD Union Chief announcing that tourists should stay away because the LAPD can't protect them.
This state is a mess and people like straw don't want to see or admit it because that would mean that they were admitting their liberals ways aren't working and they would rather suffer than admit they were wrong. They're like little spoiled kids.

The article erroneously conflates assault rifles with semiautomatic rifles of a certain appearance (so-called assault weapons).  It's 2021 and media still don't know shit from Shinola.

A quick search revealed no semiautomatic rifle manufacturers in CA, but I could be mistaken.  If passed, the proposed law would apply (briefly) to firearm retailers before being struck down along interstate commerce/restraint of trade violations.

The issue of "ghost guns," though, is a separate matter.

FYI dumbshit..Where in the Constitution does it protect abortion and you do realize the the Second Amendment is still the law of the land and trumps state laws…right?
