The headline may seem racist but the content of the article has interesting points. This issue is creating strange bedfellows. Some “progressive” prosecutors who are going overboard in letting too many criminals off the hook in order “to avoid disproportionate incarceration”, actually were PLEASED the gun restrictions were struck down in New York. In my big City on the other hand, our State’s Attorney (who is failing to adequately prosecute many crimes), remains very strict on gun violations. Allowing unregistered concealed carry (legally purchased or not) would keep her from being strict on this. Those of us worried about big city gun violence may well be on her side on this issue. Is she right or wrong? And there is a dichotomy in the black communities themselves. Lots of the wrong people have guns, but on the other hand law abiding citizens are arming up for their own protection, probably way more so in response to their own communities’ criminals as opposed to police (although distrust of the police is significant too). As with other issues, this one is all scrambled up and hard to know how to react.
