55 years ago today, GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE premiered on the ABC Television Network! This show is an American animated television series produced and created by Jay Ward and Bill Scott, who also created The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. The character George was inspired by the story of Tarzan and a cartoon characterization of George Eiferman (Mr. America, Mr. Universe, IFBB Hall of Famer) drawn by a cook on his mine sweeper in the Navy during World War II. It ran for 17 episodes on Saturday mornings from September 9 to December 30, 1967, on the American television network ABC.

Was Eiferman Jewish?

Yes, apparently:  https://lareviewofbooks.org/article/the-ballad-of-abel-kiviat-jews-and-sports/

The more interesting question is, was Mike Mentzer Jewish?  I think that he was, but not sure.

Mentzer is a pretty Jewish name, though.  It's a generic German place-name like Wiener, Posner, or Frankfurter -- which was a type of surname highly favored by Jews in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Google "Rabbi Mentzer" and you get a ton of hits.  Also, here's a Jewish Mentzer:

Also, Mentzer's neuroticism and obsession with Ayn Rand.... I don't know, bro.

How could I forget his obsession with Ayn Rand? ;D He seemed to not care much for Joe Weider though.
