If you were a 2023 IFBB Olympia judge, where would you place 1986 DeMey?

In today's asspuppet world and at his best I would choose him as Mr. Olympia.  If it was in "Guest Posing Condition" such as that here, I would still choose him because he still looks great and in my mind, the bloated-bellies, striated glutes and being muscularly obese, even when in "condition" is not what bodybuilding is all about.  I would also choose prime Zane, Nubret and Padilla over these  GHG (Growth Hormone Gayrillas) of today.

He clearly had the structure/body type to cary more mass. Berry was a favorite of mine. I thought he looked a lot better than other guys known for aesthetics.

If I were a judge today and this version of berry were in the contest, I would rate him very highly. I imagine even in guest posing shape he still had a great lower back. He had calves, proportions,  symmetry,  small waist. His condition or 'hardness' wouldn't match Chopin but then again Berry wasn't filled with oil. Ramy looks like the Michelin man, walker looks like a pile of shit. Id guess my olympia judging would have Demey, Andrew Jacked and Krizo in the top. Theres a few other guys that would rank highly, I don't know there names because theres no magazine coverage,  no really good photography and no good bodybuilding writers/journalists so I have no idea who the fuck half these people are that compete pro these days.

Odd, Arnold and pumping iron brought bodybuilding to the main stream.  Arnolds movie career, weiders magazine coverage, the Incredible Hulk all made bodybuilding main stream.

Without good writing, good magazines, good photography and hollyweird having soy latte' leading men, bodybuilding is back in the niche sub culture where it started.

this,,,berry has a distinct look and build not like all these same mass at all costs guys,he was goodlooking ,great hair,style,posing was incredible,he seemed to overdiet at times,but his 91 wbf i think is his best build overall size/condition/overall presentaion.

Berry looked amazing, but the question is specifically about 2023 IFBB judging standards.

Berry was 6'2" and 230-lb, right?

When [since Berry] has such a physique placed anywhere but last?

Berry was 3rd in 1988, right?
Gunter was 295-lb in 2005, and placed 4th.

Gunter had to be at least 50-lb heavier than Berry at the same height.

If you're asking me if Berry looks better, that's a separate question.

But the question is about judging standards...right?

I'd have to assume Berry would be last - specifically by 2023 IFBB judging standards. Not my own standards.

He might win the Classic Physique category though! But that wasn't the question, was it?

I could easily judge today's physiques.  They are fugly, bloated, muscularly obese prolapsed anuses with legs.

DeMey is classic and his physique along with Paris and Zane(!) should be the ideal.  And they are but what they are not  is the fetish of the schmoed-out judges of today.  For a long time it's all about playing schmoe 'n' tell.
