Don't know if this is true, or an O'hearn embellishment. Years ago, people asked around the California Judo scene, and no one knew him. They also said that being "California Judo Champion" doesn't mean much, because there were and are so many federations putting on contests every week, especially back then.

O'hearn is like Hankins, he gives you some truth, some embellishment. For instance, he did say he was a strongman champion at one point, and it's true he did win, but it was a smaller west coast show, with not many people there.

O’Hearn would never put himself in a situation in which he might lose against fierce competition.

No, I am simply saying if someone wants to know more from a source that isn't Mike, ask Swain. Mike has mentioned before that Swain was his teacher. Verifying something that is a big part of someone's promotional material isn't stalking. Also, why ask Mike? He'll simply tell you something you've heard before.

Because he's been using it as a promo point for years. If he said he was a regular judo player fine, so are millions of other people. But when you start to claim rankings, including championship ones with no proof, people should question.
