In Soviet Union, gear was readily accessible otc ( deca, npp, d-bol, test e
test p, sust ), but bodybuilding was officially banned in 1973 by the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports because this activity had been deemed too gay, selfish and narcissistic ( Im exaggerating a bit.)
People still practised bb and competed though.
In the late 80s, the political climate was a bit more open. Friendly Competitions between the USA and USSR had even been officialy organized


A fat but huge Troy Zuccolotto won the first one in 89, and Shawn Ray guest posed in the Soviet Union the following year I think
