Do Lifting Records Even Mean Anything?
« on: November 17, 2023, 05:41:25 PM »
 :o

obviously not exact, might be off a little, but still, no doubt an absurd amount of weight, but pushing it only 13 inches

thats almost a half rep with no arch and good form for most people

Power lifting is BS. Ever see the distance Arnold pushed the bar when he benched? It was really far. He might of had a 440 max in his day but he did a lot more work than a guy who benched 13" with a huge arch with a cheat shirt pushing 550.

Just go to any gym and watch guys doing shallow dip, half reps with presses and leg presses barely moving the weight. The only lifting record I care about is how much can you clean and jerk or snatch.

Are there leg press or dip events?

Just sayin it's all bs.  We have sumo deadlifts where the plates come off the ground one foot for some.  In the bench you have fat guys with an arch with a wide grip pushing the bar a foot with a cheat shirt. Shallow squats too. Just saying pointing out bodybuilding exercises is that people want credit for being strong cheating the exercise every way they can to use a heavy weight.

The key to enlightenment is the acceptance that nobody gives a shit about your lifting or training. Once you accept this, you can then train intelligently.

That's what makes John Haack's lifts so impressive to me. He uses a full range of motion for his lifts.

This is also why I'm certain there are powerlifters with 1,500-lb totals [bench = 400, squat = 500, deadlift = 600] who I know couldn't beat me in a balanced Strongman contest. Both types of lifters are strong in different ways. When I see a powerlifter my size bench pressing 450+, I wonder how many reps he could get with 225, without the back arch. Probably not much than me - maybe 25. Despite having a much higher 1RM.

I also know a 600-lb deadlifter who could only flip a 750-lb tire three times. At the time, my deadlift was around 450, but I could flip the tire six times.

The point I take home from this is that different people train for different things, and are stronger in those areas, which do not always carry over perfectly to other areas. The reason MMA fighters can beat stronger men is because fighters are strong in certain positions.

I used to think I could f*ck a woman better than Ron Jeremy because he is fat...but porn stars become "strong" in sex positions.

Our central nervous systems adjust to whatever we are training for. Powerlifters are great at getting one rep maxes, but they are ultimately mastering form to an extent that allows them to lift so much.

I'm not sure to what degree that increases their lifts. I'm curious if I could lift 10% more if I used actual powerlifting form.

I also agree with Fortress that Kirill Sarychev is the truly greatest raw bench presser, when you consider his form compared to that of Julius Maddox, shown above.

When I was a bouncer I always had guys coming up and asking me how much I bench pressed.  I always replied by asking them how much they weighed.  Unless they were more than 350lbs. I was safe.  They weren't.  And they understood exactly what I meant.

Nobody ever asks you how much you can squat or deadlift except powerlifters.  I liked those guys as they taught me a lot from their experiences in the gym over the years including what is light for someone is heavy for someone else and vice versa.

And if you can't take it off the rack, keep your ass on the bench and rack it yourself or use a special shirt or suit and sumo anything, you aren't lifting the weight.

Yet another thread Matt has to try to turn into about himself,
Matt are you really so insecure?

You're coming across as a really sad & desperate individual with all these Me me me
Posts.

Why not start a thread about yourself & post endlessly long posts about yourself
In it, that should help your inferiority & insecurity issues.

Powerlifting has arbitrary standards for how to hit the lifts, changing between orgs. It's only if you lift for strength you can appreciate a certain feat. John Haacks was mentioned. That's someone that's very impressive to me. Squats more like a gym novice in the squat but it works great for him.

But getbig has always denigrated everything, like what for? What's the benefit or pay. But if you think about it, everything is useless, everything is just a distraction to our ultimate destiny, death. Like Job said in the bible.

Arm wrestling? Like what for?

I never even competed but I derived GREAT temporary joy from lifting PRs. Others lifting the same way felt the same. I train with powerlifters on fridays and if we have a bad workout we say the whole weekend is ruined, if successful we go to sleep with a smile. That's how it is for me personally.

Challenging ones self is always fun IMO. Just going into a gym and pumping light weights, doesnt do it for me. (At this time).
Me vs. Me (I only compete w/ myself).  However w/ age and injury, I will be there soon enough. Rep PR's like Matt mentioned, maybe I will find joy there, I dont know...
To many of us, this is a life-long hobby. Do what you love to do...

Some hike easy trails, some climb challenging mountains. It doesn't matter what anyone else does. What works for some might not work for you...

The hardest part of a bench press is pushing the weight off your chest after a pause. So the 13-inch thing doenst matter...

who gives a fuck what others do

just get stronger yourself if you can, most don't seem to be able to do this as they use the same weights for years and years thus look EXACTLY the same for years and years :D :D :D

increased loads=increased muscle size

but you gotta eat enough cals for optimal gains in size but if you eat too much you'll add too much fat, if you eat more cals and not increase loads you''ll just get fatter and will add zero muscle tissue

You just summed it up in a few sentences. People on Youtube make video after video trying to re-invent everything.
It really is very simple...

all 3 of these guys readily admitted they gained their most amount of muscle training 3-4 days a week on HIT ie, doggcrapp which is HIT by increasing thier training loads

other guys admitted this too, what they do with the bro split ie. one boday part 5 days a week is "refine" i guess ??? ??? ???
