There are different parameters within which to rate a guitarist.
Some guys are technical marvels who cannot creat anything worthwhile. There are cats who can copy others to a T. And some players are not technical monsters but can create/write memorable music and riffs.
The best of the best are monster technicians who are hugely creative and also have a unique voice in their style.
Like him or lump him, a cat like Edward was an extraordinarily rare breed of musician.
No one is “better” than Steve Lukather.

FORTRESS,,,eddie and lukather were great friends,both played on billie jean'eddies lead'eddie vh was incredible every note,sound ,riff ,was genius.watch him at he end of last few yrs same passion play guitar and play live ,he got slower in body but mind and playing was still awesome.he loved the guitar he probably felt weird without it in hands..
