You need a generator Vince. Are you allowed to install a propane tank? Then your generator can run off that. You could also run the house off a gasoline generator - just more maintenance and a pain in the ass to keep filling the tank. Larger gasoline generators can power the house for 12-15 hours on a full tank - depending on the load.

Flooding and loss of power is no laughing matter. I've been there done that so don't wish it on anyone. A generator is a huge help when you're going to be without power for days or weeks.
