I grew up in the country. In the summer we used to ride our bikes 12 miles to a KOA campground to rent paddle boats, play pinball and arcade games and buy candy. This was from maybe 9-15 years old...none of our parents ever had any clue. Checking in by dark was the only rule.

We only played board games or video games in the house when the weather was bad. We had forts up in the trees out in the woods, bike ramps and even a skateboard half pipe on old oil land that backed up to the neighborhood. We would put coveralls on and shoot each other with BB guns out in the woods before laser tag came out. LOL

My buddies have kids that sit silent on the couch on a tablet. It's disturbing.

11 yrs old - 11 PM, 12 yrs old - midnight.
Once I hit HS at age 14, it didnt matter, they werent concerned. My cousin had his license and we would do concerts and whatever, getting in at 2AM or later (earlier).

Pretty similar to me for HS - if my grades were fine, I was never questioned.

Same here. I remember even in elementry school, both of my parents worked and had to walk to my Aunts house after school until they got off to come pick me up. It was at least a mile.

It is very disturbing that so many youngsters are not out & about playing
& instead are glued to an electronic device shut in their rooms.

It is in a rural area what if the kid had just been walking to a friend's house unsupervised what's the difference? Everyone in our neighborhood did that. You'd just walk or ride your bike nobody was with you on your way there. Or they'd just tell you "go play outside" and you'd be out of their hair for hours.

Those sure were the days. We kind of raised ourselves but at least we were more prepared for adulthood. Helicopter parents handicap their children.
