Worst job in the world, killing whoever they want you to kill. What's the difference between that and a mafia hitman? :D

Well in the legion you can get a pension after sometime and you get to develop your character in a much better way. Of course its horrible, just like all the soldiers conscripted in wars because they have to.

I know that! But on a battlefield behind a gun it would not be so important to be built like a marathon runner. And a certain amount of upper body strength and bodily power is needed for that kind of military training not just aerobic fitness. Calisthenics are where its at for that. I did not buy those trousers just for posing in them.

in fairness I saw a documentary from 1972, about a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. One of them was a big black lad who won the HW boxing champion and he was a fcuking unit.  weirdly though he had. a fear of flying and whenever they went on a plane they used to dupe him with drugged hamburger or milkshake. the other one used to dress up as lizards in hollywood, one went to work on a space station called the Galactica, the final one was killed at a party next to angela lansbury. They bodyguarded boy george once in a hick town, the black one was a fan of' the culture club' as he wrongly called it. it was all going off in a hicktown and boy george got up to sing and the locals went mad but by the end of it they were converted. Pretty sure its still out there on a documentary.

But you do know Ro that big muscles are not anythingbeing strong has alot to do with military fitness.
Obviously you do but bodybuilding poses in combat trousers has nothing to do with any military training.
Only thing important is running & a lean physique in proportion to your height & weight.

Learning French quickly would be the hardest part of joining the Foreign Legion.

I worked with at least one gunner who was 2REP, along with a Reg bloke and a bootneck. All described the Legion as hard work (especially discipline) but that the soldering wasn't actually that  complicated.
Yeah I know a couple who went but back in the 80s.
One didn't get in because he was AWOL from the British Army .
Basically the Legion is now under the regular French Army & are not anything special certainly not what they try to bring over on the web.
Not saying they've not got good guys in there but why die for the French maggots?
I agree with 38 is back & I knew some Green Jackets too & LI guys.
Bottom line serve your own country & Americans are definitely patriotic of their own military.
Think if I was in the US I probably would join the Marines..

on the subject of Marines, The Royal marines have to pass at least level 11 on the Luc Luger Test /bleep Test ...whilst the Foreign Legion only need to pass at Level 7

I would guess the US Marines would also be above Level 7

I understand the rationale, you're perhaps a criminal junkie with tats everywehere, not allowed in most militaries afaik, with no prospects and this way you can wipe the slate clean with new soc sec number and name. But killing for money is like the lowest of the low looking down from my high horse. :D

Fucked up but interesting people. From Navy Seals, getting kicked out, going to the Legion and then going AWOL before contract was up.

Anyone know what they are rocking for watches these days? There is this new US brand MTM https://www.mtmwatch.com/ they claim to be special forces watches lol.

I actually like the French Brand Baltic. They have an auto dive watch in bronze for under 1k

https://baltic-watches.com/en/products/aquascaphe-bronze-black

Not sure if any French Soldiers use Baltic it seems Bronze is the new style. Every brand is putting one out now. The Baltic is cheap Japanese movement but still cool. Tudor has a full bronze diver as well now as do many other swiss watches.

I was not thinking about that part much but it did dawn on me that I don't want to take another's life, it was more the sense of escaping from the pressures of a boring as fuck civilian life and the challenge, and maybe to scare my parents, they were very glad I decided to pursue bodybuilding and personal training. My dad even paid for my flight to Australia (I laboured for half a year for funds) in hopes that staying with my asshole uncle would change my mind.

I don't know shit about the military but read a few articles recently and they said Casio G-Shock is undisputed #1 in "special units." Some others used other brands mostly for sentimental reasons or tradition. Was it WWII where every American soldier got a Rolex?

Brands like Hamilton all make a khaki field watch these are supposedly the watch style soldiers got issued

https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-us/h69439931-khaki-field-mechanical.html

I dont like a self winding mechanical though I prefer an Auto they do make the khakki field in bronze

https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-us/h69459510-khaki-field-mechanical-bronze.html

I would get that watch if it was auto

But lots of brands like Paneri claim to be linked to different military diving watches or field watches or aviation

This is bad ass if you have 33k to blow

https://www.panerai.com/en/collections/watch-collection/submersible/pam02070-submersible-quarantaquattro-goldtech-orocarbo.html

I forget which brand it was but one watchmaker bought endorsements from known military people to make it seem like everyone loved them, "SEALS" etc. But almost uniformly everyone thought they were pieces of shit.
