All tv and movies are free online. Why pay?
Probably don't know the websites to find all those movies and TV shows for free.

I think I have too many services:

Netflix, HBO MAX, paramount, discovery +, peacock, shudder, Disney, Hulu, Prime, MGM+ and AppleTV.

But I don’t have cable because don’t like what’s normally on tv.

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/01/21/media/netflix-raising-prices-subscriber-record

Netflix announced Tuesday it will raise prices on most of its subscription tiers in the US and Canada after the streaming giant reported 19 million new subscribers in the last quarter of 2024.

The jump in subscribers, Netflix’s biggest-ever, puts the streaming giant at 302 million globally, solidifying the company’s hold on the top spot in the industry.

Netflix attributed the service’s latest success to the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul boxing match in November, which it said drew 108 million viewers worldwide, making it the most-streamed sporting event ever. Netflix later hosted two Christmas Day NFL games, which averaged 30 million global viewers, making them the most-streamed football games in history.

The price increases announced Tuesday will see the standard monthly membership without advertisements increase from $15.49 to $17.99, while a standard account with ads will rise one dollar to $7.99. Its highest-priced premium tier, which includes 4K video quality, will increase by $2 to $24.99.

I'm currently on my sister's netflix account, so right now I don't pay anything... I do have peacock (5 dollars a month) and I get MAX and other streaming for free. I think it's because I still have CABLE and it comes with that?

I still have CABLE because I like and always do record stuff off the TV with my dvd player/recorder. Something you can't do if all you have is streaming services channels. I do think there is a way to record off of streaming and onto a blank dvd but it's very complicated I think and I don't know if it's legal?..

Streaming services like Google TV that replace traditional cable let you record.  Streaming services like Max, you don't need to because everything is always available.

Now, let's get to the important stuff Tom - why do you feel the word "cable" needs to be typed in all capital letters?

Grape Ape, I have no reason why i capitalized cable, I guess just to differentiate it from streaming and what I posted.

I know nothing of google tv, i'll have to look into it..

as far as Max and other streaming services, I don't think all of them keep stuff available forever and I record plenty of stuff with my dvd recorder/player onto blank dvds that are not on streaming, hence why I keep cable for now...

When I first cut the cord on cable, I was paying $250/mth for internet and cable.  When I cut, Xfinity charged $100 for internet, and Youtube TV was $75.  So that saved about $900 a year, with literally no difference in what we could watch, since YT TV has local channels.

I will now be dumping YT TV, getting an HD antennae which will get all the local channels in HD for a one time cost of about $75.  So that will save another $900.

I really won't miss anything by dumping cable and YT TV.  I barely watch most of the channels, and all of it's available elsewhere.  I haven't watched network TV in ages - there's too much good stuff on sites like MGM+, etc which I can just pick and choose to binge/cancel.

I have an roof antenna to get local channels.   Antenna cost me about $30 and I put it up myself.

Wheels on in case I need to leave quickly but I cover the tires to protect against UV.

Sometimes I park it at Walmart for free and can use their restroom.

Many are doing this. The only way cable/satellite TV will survive is to offer a la carte option to only buy the channels you watch.

Growing up, my parents had one of those giant satellite dishes in the backyard.  After purchase and installation, they paid $9 a month for a "code" and a "guide" to be used to access all the channels.  If I remember correctly, there was 26 "points" (a-z) and each point had close to 80-90 channels (A1, A2, A3....A90) and each channel had about 150 "stations" (001, 002, 003, etc)

You could get over 250,000 channels to watch.  However, only about 300 were in English.   :-\

We used that until cable evolved and put it in the satellite business in the grave.  Years later, my dad had to hire someone that had tools to go out back and cut the thing down.  The company was no longer in business and no one would come and remove it.

The point here is, this seems to be the same path that cable is going down now.  Places like my HOA are including internet and cable packages free in the HOA dues.  My two rental HOAs are doing the same as well.  Add in cell phone companies and such it seems that in the future the only way that companies are going to be able to generate subscriptions to their streaming sites is to offer more original content that isn't available anywhere else.  That would probably mean that movie theaters catch the brunt of that in the beginning.

All tv and movies are free online. Why pay?

Are you condoning stealing from multi-billion dollar corporations who don't give a f*ck about anything or anyone but their bottom line?

Obviously, your HOA pays for the cable and internet services and it's included in your dues, right?

So, it's not really free.  You pay for it with your HOA fee.

You have to pay for it whether you want it or not like if the HOA has a tennis court or pool but you don't use it.

I remember those large sat dishes in peoples' yards.  Those were still going strong into the mid and later 90's.

They were very common out in rural areas that didn't have cable access.

Direct TV came along and then people had the smaller dishes on their roofs and that killed off the big dishes.

I still see the Direct TV dishes on peoples roofs or in yards but they are usually disconnected.

Yes, I think that's the way.

Might be too late, but boomers and such don't like the hassle of switching or learning new stuff so that could help.
