fighting is cool and exiting both to do and watch but a wise man won't pursue it. Especially today when we know about CTE

True. But we always knew about CTE except we used to call it being “punch drunk.”

Had this world champion kickboxer on my FB feed who had become a crusader against any minor doing any sparring in the gym, only adults who had signed a waiver could do it but he adviced against it, said the brain damage occurs much earlier than people assume, any hit causes damage and in competition he said an expert could often see after the first exchange signs of brain damage, before the fighters looked even affected to the average viewer. Of course he had a lot of opposition from fight fans saying he should butt out, we're not going to do away with fighting. Since I'm not an expert I can't have a really informed opinion myself.

Very sad.......way too young, but boxing is a brutal sport that has had many deaths over the years.

May he rest in peace.  :(

15 year old kickboxer died this weekend as well

I'm just wondering about the standards of such a club.. a 15 year old Black Belt  ::)
Maybe if he was trained differently & more mature with experience he might not have been put in such a position

You can be trained very well and still die from a kick to the head.

Can die sitting on the toilet too but my point was his age & experience  & being in an illegal fight
There's a huge difference between an experienced fighter & a 15 year old school kid.

Guy was right. You should only even think of taking striking sports seriously if you have a clear natural gift like elite heavy hands or grappling strength like Khabib.

If you're only doing it for self defence, just do light technical sparring and pads.
