Thanks bud......that was my only time meeting Ty Felder, but I believe you of course as you know him!
I had to Google Doc Johnson (sex toys
) I was under the impression that a certain Doc Johnson in the BB world sold and made posing trunks
ANWAY NO MOMO
Doc is/was a big name in the NPC amateur ranks. He promoted a shit load of low to mid contests all over in various places years ago. And had a lot of promoters of other contests in his pocket as well. I am not sure if he is still in the biz now because the gyms I go to now don't put up or advertise BB contests anymore like the ones back in the day did. Some people going back in the scene on here may know more about him. But the rumor is that Doc would provide "hands on coaching and guidance" to select BBers he "saw potential in". Read what you may from that, but most people were convinced it $$$ and roids in schmoe deal. I had no dealings with him, never had a conversation with him or anything else so this is all what various people have told me. From other guys who competed, to people who also ran shows, to other gym owners. Is it true? No idea. But people say where there's smoke, there's fire.
In Atlanta, there was a new upcoming marvel named Bruce West that hit the scene like a wrecking ball, winning his weight class and overall in 2 out 3 shows (GA and Jr Nationals) and winning his weight class (beating Mike Francois - however you spell his name) at the Southern States, but losing the overall to Jorge Chic. People were talking about Bruce being the next Mendenhall. He was that good and had such unlimited potential. I do remember him having amazing legs. Easily in the Quadzilla category. I didn't really know him or talk to him. I was just entering university and he didn't train at Haney's. So I only saw him periodically around town at the grocery stores or such. But unfortunately for him, (the story goes two ways) he spurned Doc's advances in some way (first version) or his ultra strict parents he was living with found out about him and Doc and a bunch of drama happened (second version) and in either case, Doc was pissed and Doc made it known that he was now forever blackballed in any show that Doc promoted and other shows that Doc had pull in with those promoters. He would never place well again Doc promised. Realizing he was just going to be spinning his wheels for no reason, he just dropped out and became a trainer. And then died at age 40. Some say he basically killed himself. I don't know the details of it as I was not his friend or knew anyone that was close to him. What I heard was just what someone else that knew him told another person. But I - and others - always wondered what he would have turned out like had he really had a chance to put the pedal to the metal and see how far he could go.
The guy that sold shit around town named Bobby, that I mentioned before, who was murdered... he told me himself that he was instructed by people to never sell anything to him again or anyone associated with him. I don't know if he was being truthful, I mean a couple years later he got killed and his twin brother vanished months before so who knows if he was telling the truth.
