Oh I forgot to mention not only will I get a pension but I also have a separate 401k

It’s not a bad gig some unions are better than others

If you want to make your living doing physical labor have at it. I have no problem saying I would prefer not to do back breaking labor for a living. I realize it’s good honest money with benefits just saying I would prefer to sit at a desk in the Ac with internet access and stock options. But by all means any job that pays the bills is a a good job

I have a white collar job. I just recognize that many people in blue collar professions make very good livings and receive a nice pension, particularly if youre part of a union. Nothing more, nothing less.

I don't have a pension job, but I could if I worked for the city, state, county or government. On the other hand, I have the type of job that I can do into old age (if I am decent both physically and mentally).

I was a union millwright in NJ before I went back to running my window/door business.  I made a shit ton more money with less stress in the union than what I deal with now trying to find and keep employees and my 60-70 hour work weeks.  It's hard once you're a owner/boss to go back and work for anyone.  What kills me now at age 60 is the desire to be back into the gym but I'm always so stressed out about my projects with OCD level work that I can never unplug from installing or estimating.  Staying in the union would have given me a much better life looking back, hell I could be retired.  The rate for regular journeymen is over $60 an hour.  At my age I'd be a boss at about $80 an hour with annuity, pension, and the best benefits.

I feel you on that. I have the same thoughts about if I were to sell my business, there’s no way I could just jump back in working for someone. I’d have to do commercial real estate or something that gave me freedom.

"hard work" is a silly term. I made more money in the first 5 years of my own business than I had made in the 20 years prior- and it certainly wasn't hard work.

The term is a throwback to the days people thought manual labor was the only way to make a living.

Sorry, I meant to say "hardly working" as in "Bhanky has been hardly working".
