Since August 2025, twenty-two Republican Congress people and sixteen Democratic Congress people have announced that they won't be running for office in the 2026 midterms. Including nine Senators and Twenty-two House of Representatives folks. This is in addition to those who have already resigned or died.

It is also worth noting the voter registration has sharply increased for independents and unaffiliated folks. This represents a significant shift in the political landscape in advance of the midterms.

Neither Google nor CNN told me this for two reasons, one is that they don't talk to me and two is that I did not check with them. Despite what Chaos thinks, I stopped watching CNN news shows a while ago with the exception of some of the documentaries they air on the weekends. Most of the news these days is depressing.

The information I posted is from Ballotpedia and might be incorrect, or it might be correct and some of these congress people will have a change of heart. If not, this will be the largest turnover in many years.
