Dont know why most people here hate on Joe Weider so much. I don't know him personally or even a lot of the actual events surrounding his life, but he is to bodybuilding what Henry Ford is to cars. Sure he may have ruffled a few feathers on the way and all, but he never put a gun to someone's head or forced anyone into any situation. I'm sure any of his associates / employees / athletes had ample opportunities to read contracts and refuse them if they wanted. Voluntarily signing a (Weider) contract and then winging about the terms of it is just as pathetic as the people who sue Tobacco companies after chain smoking themselves into lung cancer.

I know people like Onlyme constantly bash the IFBB, but if you think about it, did the IFBB actually force anyone to do anything - NO. Anyone else feel this way

It is a monopoly and it will continue most likely even when he is gone.

Of course he wants to make money off the bodybuilder(s) and of course he offers that chance only when someone is good enough - after all, its business and everyone is there purely to make a profit. Are you saying that the Weiders should just give their money away to bodybuilders regardless of whether they are good or not, out of charity? It's just like any other form of employment - you've got to put in the work consistantly and most importantly, get results or get your ass fired!

And weider is not a monopoly LOL - a monopoly can only be enforced by the government. Vince Mc Mahon started the WBF, and now Wayne has the PDI to give 2 examples. Some of you guys winge about the fact that the contracts are ruthless and the bodybuilders aren't paid well or picked up from the airport etc, but no one is forcing these guys to compete or even sign the contract in the first place. The bottomline is that no one owes the competitors ANYTHING. Sure it would be nice to have these guys treated the way they deserve to be, like athletes from golf or tennis, but they are not OWED that. Like someone pointed out, powerlifters don't get any pay etc. It's the same with bodybuilding - one can make a living out of it if they are in the 1st or 2nd tier, but unfortunately, its acceptance is just not wide enough to enable all the guys in the top 100 to live off it  

It's basically the same old story of people whining about how they are worth more and should get paid more etc. If any of you guys employ other people, you know what I'm talking about. Things could always be better - the boss could be more relaxed / lenient, the pay could be better, the perks could be better blah, blah, blah the list goes on

You've got a great point here. I wouldn't go as far as calling bodybuilders "lazy f*cks" though LOL (at least not all of them  ). I think its just unrealistic of them to expect uncle Joe to pay them and treat them like how athletes from sports are paid / treated. Unfortunately, reality dictates that when it comes to money, there is no exception to the law of supply and demand - the more a sport is embraced / popular, the more the participating athlete is going to make from it.

This is a very good post.  BB are lazy.  Other than training hard for a couple hours a day they are lazy.  They do not go out and promte themselves, they try to rely on BB as a living and that doesn't work.  They want to be treated like babies and taken care of.  They are big momma's boys.  They wouldn't be so broke and living hand to foot so much if they went out and promoted themselves.
