In my expierence...biceps/triceps grew best with a mixture of both styles of training with different intensities and rep-range.
For biceps I go w/ 3 usual exercises. The first is standing EZ bar curls...1 warmup for 12-15 light. Then 1 workset of 10 reps(make sure that there is no way rep 11 could happen without a spotter...make it 10 HARD reps...work for them) 2nd set is for 8 reps( usually 6 maybe 7 on your own...spotter moves in to give you the 'magic fingertips' for the last one...slow negative) and the final set is for 6 reps with 4 maybe...maybe 5 on your own have your spotter again w/ 'magic fingertips' give you a touch for the last one...maybe two. work your negative.
Now it's Incline DB curls...1 warmup set w/ light weight for 8-10. One arm at a time...1st set is for 12 hard reps...second set is for 10 and last set is for a hard 8 reps. Follow same sequence as above with a spotter if you have one...like I do...and King does. Well...a staff of spotters I mean.
Last exercise is usually standing one arm bottom cable curls(stirrup handle)...2 sets. 1st set 20 reps, 2nd set 12-15reps...this is when I might rest 30 seconds and lower the weight by 20lbs or so and crank out 10 more...lower it again by 10lbs and crank out 10 more.
That should swell the biceps up and terrorize enough fibers for growth. Have at it!
