Low carb diet question
« on: August 12, 2006, 12:23:56 AM »
I'm planning on dieting strictly for a month with fairly low carbs, my question is should i have some high carb days during the week or atleast once a week or can i get away with just eating the same amount of calories everyday for the entire month. i ask because whenever i have a high carb day say once a week it always throws my entire diet of, i know it sounds stupid but for some reason once i get into the groove of the low carbs i could go for ages but when i have a high carb day i lose it and end up pigging out.

No reason to do a high carb day.  4 weeks isn't long enough for a diet though.

You have 4 shakes a day? If you are trying to cut fat I would suggest bumping up your solid food meals instead of shakes. The protein is already processed and won't help your metabolism go into high gear because your body doesn't have to do any work breaking down the food.

you need to up your protein and fat intake...get some efa's...when you say 1 scoop of whey i'm guessing that is about 25g of protein...you should make it 2 scoops...how many ounces of protein are your solid meals?

when do you train?... the timing of your shakes is important...  the most important times to have your shakes are in the morning, post workout, before bed....the 60 to 90 min after your post workout shake you want to get a solid meal....100% whey is not the best choice for before bed because it is to quick...add some fat to slow down the absorbtion...or use casein.

after 5 days of that a carb up is the way to go...actually a 48hr carb up would be better than the 24...but if you have enough will power to follow that diet for 5 or 6 days you should have enough to carb up without going overboard.

you need WAY more good fat in your diet....nuts, olive oil, fish oil, natural peanut butter.

you should try a cyclical ketogenic diet. An example of an extreme version of this diet is the UD2 by Lyle MacDonald. I tried this diet and in my opinion it is simply too rediculous. You can still get excellent results on a moderate CKD.

On days you don't train ALL of your meals should be protein and fat.
On days you do train all of your meals are P+F except for right before your train (and after too if you choose). Your final meal before bed should be P+F.

You can get excellent results from this type of diet and honestly it will keep your much much more sane than a diet like UD2. You can refeed every 6th week or so.

i train in the morning before my first meal. (i know i should eat before but id feel sick i take a sugar free red bull)
and i know it should be a shake after my workout for my first meal with some carbs but i have to take anti-biotics with my first meal thats why i have to have real food there and it cant be any dairy products(whey included) and the meal unfortanetly has to be small.
az-id love to eat all my meals with whole food but im currently studying and have just lost my part time job. i have a tub of protein left that should last me this diet and i really cant afford to buy to much food etc at this stage.

If you are low carbing, it means you should be at around 50-70 grams of carbs each day.

Carb load once every 7-9 days, stay away from everything that has fat in it. Make sure to drink 2 grams of water for every gram of carb you eat. Start with the carb up after an evening workout, then load up with fast carbs and everything carbs gradually making the carbs slower until next afternoon. 1000 grams of carbs or something like that?

Don't train during your carb up day. The day after will feel awesome though. Full and ready to lift heavy.
