Holyfield is making a comeback at 43!
« on: August 19, 2006, 02:20:35 PM »
His first fight in years was on last night. It didn't seem like age has taken it's toll at all. He was fast as hell. Beat some jobber with a 21-11 record in the second round by ref stoppage. He plans on taking a top 10 guy next. He was injured before, and that's why he quit. He said age had nothing to do with it.

He quit because the New jersey athletic commision took away his license for not being able to protect himself in the ring. Prior to last night, he had lost 5 of his last 6. And he fought an insurance salesman last night.

the HW division is the worst it has ever been but Holyfield will still get battered to fuck by any top 10 fighter. Matt Skelton, Danny Williams, The fucking mutant world champion - these guys would have been used to wipe mike tysons arse 15 years ago but they are 3 of the top fighters in the world right now. I think Holyfield has had the last ounce of sense beaten out of him, hes been washed up since losing to Lennox the 2nd time. He will die in the ring if he continues to pursue the title

Wladamir has a fight coming up against Shannon Briggs,  I like Briggs chances in this one, he has had problems in the past against top level guys, but he does hit hard, and he did drop Lennox.  He took some time off from pro-boxing and I think he even fought in K-1, and since then, he is back in boxing and is on an 11 fight KO streak.  James Toney and Sam Peter are fighting on Sept. 2 and the winner gets a title shot also. (I don't know with who thought)  Right now there is no true great American HW.,  Mesi looked good until his brain bleed and now he is just shit, Brock is undefeated and has potential but he is kind of a cautious fighter.  Briggs will probably lose to Wlad, but he will probably drop old glass chin at least once in that fight.  Toney is a damn good technician, he can take a punch, but his conditioning, punching power, and size aren't in his favor.

I like Holyfield, but I think his motivation for coming back is the fact that black guys no longer dominate the heavyweights. Toney was saying some racist stuff a while back but I don't remember the exact quote. Foreman was bitching about Ruskies coming over too. These guys are pissed off about it.

Wlad Klitschko, btw, is a good fighter. He battered Lewis. If it wasn't for that cut he would have knocked him out. Lewis is not a legend in my mind. He was never special.

he never batterd Lewis. He may have been ahead on the scorecards but had he fought on for 2 more rounds his face would have been torn apart. He was in some state at the end of the fight, his face had to be sown back together. Lewis gassed for sure but Wlad was in serious trouble. UFC would have stopped it long before then .

Lewis wasnt as silky as the champions of old but he got the job done one way or another. Hes boxings Matt Linland

Yeah, that's who I meant. I heard the most common cause for cuts in boxing is the laces on the gloves. I don't know if this is true though. I do know Lewis was lucky Vitali was cut, because he was on wobbly knees.

The end of the first round Evander looked sharp.  Throwing good, solid punches with incredible accuracy and a lot of snap behind them.

I guess that depends on what you consider a nobody.  He isn't a top ten fighter but has fought many....stood and banged with many fighters, has beaten other guys that also are professional fighters.  I guess because I know how tough it is to box I give respect to pro fighters.  To me a nobody is guys that never put on gloves and think they are tough guys NOT pro fighters.  Did you see the fight?  Regardless of his opponent Evander looked good and is aware and spoke about things he could have done better.  Doubt the guy in the gym talking about how tough he is and walking around with his arms out to the side, don't doubt a four time world champion and one of the greatest boxers in the game ever.

If your comparing him to his fights against Bowe than he is a long way away, but he still looked good.  That's the one thing about being great...when you fall just a bit, but still look better than most fighters people will say you look like sh--.  If Ronnie comes in better than everyone else, but less than his average showing there will be people that say he looks like sh--.  Critics!

the only fighters in the top ten that would give Evander trouble could possibly be James Toney and Sergei only becuse he is like 7' tall. although i believe A healthy Evander would beat James. His loss to Toney was with two really bad shoulders. and Evander did look good on friday, although yes the opponent wasnt top ten, however he want a tomato can, he fought some really good fighters. Evanders footwork looked much better than his last five or six fights, which has alot to do with his shoulder mobility.

I wish TYSON would make a comeback he's younger then evander and if they took him off his medication that makes him a deginerate. Weve all said thru out this post the heavyweight division sucks donkey dick... I think if tyson came back and trained hard he could take the belt back no problem.... what yall think. and if not it still would be fun to be rooting for iron mike one last time. The man would still have the belt had all those problems and dumb mistakes hit him....
