Good travel foods
« on: October 02, 2006, 11:34:36 AM »
Hey guys, I work for the railroad so I'm away from home a lot.  I'm trying to cut some fat but also want to keep building muscle but being away from home makes it hard to get the food I want and often I have to eat at diners and convenience stores once I run out of food that I have packed.  Anyone have any recommendations on what type of meals I can pack/purchase to help with my diet?  I'm trying to eat relatively clean but not too strict.  I have to have a little flexibility.  Looking to come down to about 7 or 8% bf from about 12% or so currently.  Thanks for any help.
Everyone is fair game.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I've been told by a few people that you should only eat tuna or salmon like twice a week or you'll get "mercury poisoning".  Sounds like crap to me, but how true is it?

Beef jerky is a good travel food and RTD protein (I like Met RX chocolate, 110 cals, 21 g protein, 5g carbs, 3g fiber).

About the only thing I can grab when I forget a meal is beef jerky from a convience store, gets a bit expensive if you eat too much.

buy a food dehydrater... i make my own and keep it in the fridge... the stuff is great and it works out to be a lot cheaper.... plus the house smells like jerky!

Glad to see I'm somewhat on the right track...I've been eating a lot of this stuff already.  Jerky's great, but yea, it's really high sodium.

Don't worry about sodium unless you have high BP or are about to step on stage.

Already stated but as a snack on the road I like Beef Jerky.  It's probably to salty, but it is high in protein with little to no carbs and fat and doesn't spoil.

Also I eat lots of salmon from the can.  I prefer it over tuna.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you start hearing voices.  If you let the media get to you, you won't eat anything: hormones, pestisides, chemicals, etc.  nothing is good for you anymore
