I just think there's too much risk of a major October surprise scandal, to just roll with him. Let the convention go contested, choose Thune or Ryan or whoever.
It seems to be that the same people who believed Palin was a brilliant person and an awesome choice, believe all these odors of a sex scandal are no biggie. They also believed Carson never lied and Cain never cheated. They will keep on believing what they want to believe, they'll fall for an idiot VP in 2020 or ignore obvious signs of shady in 2024. They let their partisan blinder get in the way of common sense.
