I am not one to say anything bad, and thisguy is definitely strong as hell but I just don't like spotters anywhere near the bar. You can say he had just his fingertips or whatever but I guarantee you that can assist in lifting at least 20 to 40 lbs. The lift was perfect and his form and everything I just wish when guys do this they don't have a spotter that close. I never use a spotter. If I'm not going to be able to do the weight I may not do it but it will only lay on my chest for a second. I will be holding it till someone comes over. A spot like that is worthless in my opinion cause if that guy dumpled it hard fingertips won't help. If you are going to have a spooter have them place their hands well below or above the bar. Don't touch the whole way. Great lift anyway.
Why do you think people use spotters anyway, have you ever think about that? And do you know how to spot properly? What I mean is that is just what you do, when you are a spotter; you assist a lift as much it is needed and help a lifter to use up all his energy for the last rep. You don't use force, you just use your fingertips to make load somewhat lighter, and be ready for collapse if lifter can't accomplish his last rep. Spotting like this you can improve your lifters workout pretty much, because you are giving him a way to complete exhaust his muscles. I have done some serious spotting with bb:ers and power lifters, and I always look at the guy who ask me to spot him. If I see that he is serious and he is going to give everything for that exercise, I do my best to help him. If I see that he is only some bozo who doesn't even try, I wait for him to collapse under the barbell and only then I release him. When they sweat few seconds with barbell on their chest, they try much harder next time
