Btw, Tre..... The punishment the knicks and nuggets players received was due to the rash of incidents that have been occurring in the NBA over time. People who are outraged seem to forget the multiple incidents that lead up to this no nonsense attitude with NBA players. Specifically the incident where Artest and co beat the shit out of fans in the stands lol. When is the last time you saw a NHL team rush into the stand and start beating the shit out of fans? How about the number of NHL players arrested for violent crimes or gun possesion? Choking out coaches, Getting into beefs with gang members, Publically "beefing" with gangsters and rap stars, beating the Christ out of wives, being accused of sexual assault, having jewelry stolen then a member of your entourage capping a suspect of the crime? How about punching camera men in the face? I remember when Pierce first came to Boston and got into with one of the local gangs at some shithole club. Got himself stabbed, what like 15 times? You could probably find isolated incidents in the NHL of a few of these points. But, I am willing to bet it is not even close to as common as it is in the NBA.

Ob this incident was a bit hypocritical of the NHL. But, maybe if NBA players did not act like "yo yo gangster thugs" they would not have the problems they did.

I love how Wilbon leaves out the rash of incidents I listed above. Might have something to do with the attitude people have towards NBA players ::) People act like the NBA hasent been out of control for years now.

I like Wilbon but it's funny how he never badmouths black quarterbacks

when kordell stewart was the bears qb for like half a season he never said one negative thing about him, just made excuses for him

he calls rex grossman a "midget loser" or something like that

Haha, the double standard is so obvious it is laughable. Just another excuse for the African American community to get outraged. None of the past illegal, and despicable acts NBA players have been committing for years have anything to do with this harsh attitude towards them  ::)

stupidest thing ever posted.  First, 9 times out of 10 when a hockey fight happens the guys square off second it never escalates to the point the denver/new york fight went.  Even all the brawls between Detroit and Colorado never were bench clearing with guys skating up and thorwing sucker punchs and skating away to hide behind the rest of the team..btw, a buch of the top fighters nowadays in the NHL are black guys, like George Lerock-sp-.

EVERYONE made excuses for Kordell...wasn't just the Black media.

Because Kordell is gay, no one wanted to come off as a homophobe by criticizing him.

Oh please.  The NBA is not out of control at all.  They've had a handful of incidents (two that I can remember) where a player ran into the stands and in neither case was the fan hit or beaten up.  A lot of NBA players get in trouble off the court.  That's a different issue.  But on the court, fights are very rare.  I've been watching the NBA since I was a kid and it's probably the cleanest major sport we have in terms of fights.  I see many more fights in football and baseball than I do in basketball.

Hockey is the absolute worst.  Those guys are thugs.  You can call it "part of the game" all you want, but they're still thugs.  I remember a sportscaster from San Diego names Ted Leightner (sp?).  He hated hockey.  He hockey highlights during the sports segment would consist solely of a fight from one of the hockey matches.  It was hilarious.  Hockey fans hated him.  He used to read their hate mail on the air.  Funny guy.

An entire team runs into the stand and beats The shit out of fans, numerous gun possesion charges against many NBA players. Numerous cases of spousal abuse,  sexual assault cases, public feuds with rap stars and real life gangsters, shooting, stabbings and violence against coaches. A memeber of Ryan Gomes entourage just got arrested for shooting a gangster they suspected jacked Gomes's chins from him at gunpoint in Boston. Paul Pierce got himself stabbed 10 times when he first started playing here. These incidents are a few of MANY that involve NBA players and gangsters. A lot these issues I listed did not happen one time either. Many of them happened multiple times with multiple players.

All this has happened within the last few years alone. The NBA has been out of control for a long time now and that is a fact. The harsh punishments dealt by the NBA are a response to the gangster mentallity a ton of NBA players emmulate. If the many issues I outlined has not been occuring in the nba, and this was a random fight if would not be that huge of a deal. I dare you to find me a list of NHL athletes that have been involved in all those crimes in the last 5 years. I can hand you one from the NBA. Stern is sick of the image these players are giving the NBA. On and off the court. He is getting tough and he should. It is a joke.

An entire NBA team ran into the stands and beat the crap out of fans?  I missed that one.  Which team was that?  Date?  Pictures?  Location?

If you're talking about which sport has the most on-the-field/court thugs, it's hockey.  Not even close.  If you're talking about the sport with the most off-the-field/court thugs, it's the NBA.

You know what I meant. Multiple starting players ran into the stands and beat the shit out of fans. That is a disgrace and a joke. After that the NBA started cracking down. Hence the harsh suspensions. Racism had shit to do with it.

The game of hockey is a contact sport. On the "court"/ice hitting, checking and fighting have all been present since the day the sport was formed. Basketball is a sport where fighting is not part of the game. Making it that much worse when players act like thugs.

Btw, I edited my post as I relized it looked to sarcastic with the " this post is halarious" statement. You did not see the new version before you quoted it :(

Didn't see the edited version.   :)

But still, if you're talking about the Pacers/Pistons brawl, you're really misstating what happened.  The only fans who were hit were the couple who ran on the court and challenged the players to a fight.  The entire incident started when a fan threw beer on Ron Artest as he was lying prone on the scorer's table.  Artest ran into the stands, but never punched a fan.  Stephen Jackson ran in the stands to "help" Artest.  He didn't beat up any fans either.  Jermaine O'Neal clocked a fan on the court, but that fan deserved it.

Do you watch NBA games?  It's one of the cleanest sports out there.  Guys get technical fouls for arguing calls or just taunting other players.  One punch = automatic minimum one game suspension.  There are very few of those each year.  With about 32 teams and 82 games a year, there are relatively few fights and suspensions.  You're confusing off-the-court behavior with what actually happens during NBA games.

Fighting shouldn't be part of any sport other than boxing (or that ultimate fighting stuff).  There is no way the NFL, MLB, or the NBA would allow a fraction of what goes on in a single hockey match.

you obviously dont know much about hockey and why fighting needs to be allowed(to an extent).

in other sports like the nba and mlb if a player gets mad enough at someone to lose his cool he runs at him swinging his fists.
hockey players have a potential weapon in their hand the entire time they are on the ice and are skating at very high speeds. if they get pissed at someone and lose their cool, would you rather they swing that stick at someones head or knee...or crush them head first into the boards skating 40km/h?  >:(

give nba players a stick during the game and fence them in and see what happens.

and you call all hockey players a bunch of thugs? ever hear of alexander ovechkin,  sydney crosby, evgeni malkin, jordan stall, marian hossa, jaromir jagr or MARIO LEMIEUX and WAYNE GRETZKY.
thugs???  ::)

You are correct that I don't watch hockey.  I've seen plenty of hockey fights, but I don't watch the sport.  It sounds like you're saying hockey players need to fight with their fists so they don't swing hockey sticks?   ???  I guess football players should be allowed to fight with their fists so they don't swing helmets?  Same with baseball players and bats?  I'm sorry, but that makes no sense.

Hockey players who fight on the court are thugs IMO.  So are football players who play dirty.  NBA players, etc.  Not all of them are thugs, in any sport.  Gretzky was a class act.  Just like Tim Duncan.  Just like Tom Brady.  Tony Gwynn.  Every sport has their model citizens and their bad apples.
