I spoke to Gunter yesterday at Gold's Venice, and he said that he will most likely sit out the 2007 contest season to work on some business projects, and make the 2008 Arnold Classic his next contest.

Yeah..I train at Gold's Venice on average about 5 days a week....and I pretty much just ran into him on my way out the door. I spoke to him for about 5-6min. I must say that I was very impressed with how nice and genuine he was. Perhaps the most approchable pro I have met so far...(actully I would have him tied with Dorian in that regard). Without naming names I will say that Im not usually too impressed with some pros after meeting them, so it was refreshing to meet someone who conducted himself in a very professional manner.

Also I noticed that the new issue of FLEX has a bit of info about Gunter's future plans. (In the hard times section, it basicly reiteraites what I allready said. That he plans on taking 2007 off).

Gunter is taking 2007 off, but he has a lot of project plans. One of them is getting married in about 2-3 months (mid March) to Kim Lyons! Also, Gunter and Kim have a nice pad in Redondo Beach very close to the water!

The real story is that Gunter is not responding to his cycle as before, with decreasing results from gear his placements keeps falling.

so rather than being an "also ran" Gunter will be off cycle for the next 8+ months, hoping that his receptors comes back to life.

actually this is a smart move...Now his sponsors can do a "Dillet like spread for his comeback"

He should slim down to about 225 and start doing action movies.  He had decent presence in 'Beerfest' for an acting 'noob'.  But he's too 'muscle-bound' to realistically do action movies right now.  Thats what I would do...a lot more money in it.

No, he should he should prepare for a hit man movie role as if it were the Mr. Olympia contest. Watch Kevin Levrone's movie "Backlash". He is a hit man, has almost no dialogue and acts like a robot the whole time. He should've never slimmed down for the role, he would looked much more impressive as a 250 pound ripped bodybuilder than a 210 pound guy that looks likes he works out a little.

BTW, the movie was terrible, it made "Hercules Goes to New York" look like a masterpiece. Why should a bodybuilder slim down to play a bad guy, hit man?  What a waste!

"Are you saying Bob Chick is an asshole?"

To tell you the truth...in the 2 or so months that I have been religiously going to Golds/Venice, I have only seen Chic once....for about 5min...when they were putting up Jay's picture on the wall. I didnt get a chance to say hi...he was pretty much in and right back out.

I hate to say this, but even in Venice, bodybuilding is a fringe sub-culture. When I first went to Venice I expected to see wall-to-wall bodybuilders, several pros/amatures, etc, but it just isn't there. Being inside Gold's Venice and looking around...isn't too far removed from being inside a bally's or 24 hour fitness, in that you have a lot of people that are half-assing it, or that are there to socialize. Dont get me wrong, there is still a lot of atmosphere, and its very inspiring to look around and see all of the history that runs deep in the place. There are still a few serious heads that train there, but it isn't anything like one would expect.

Still, its not all bad, as it still has a very eclectic/bohemian feel to it. A very bizzare mix of seriousness and complete absurdity indeed! I am gratefull that I have an oppertunity to currently train at the mecca.

His first wife was hotter.
 ;)

Like someone else said, the guy should slim down, and go full bore into acting. Give the "juicing for trophy" career up. Even actors who star in b-level movies that go straight to video make more than most bodybuilders.

He also trains at Gold's in Redondo Beach where I go and he told a friend of mine the same thing....he will be sitting out 07' to focus on other ventures and be back in 08'
