Question concerning morning cardio
« on: January 11, 2007, 09:11:14 AM »
Hi guys  ;D

I'm helping out a friend of mine who really wants to get rid of his huge gut.
He was on anti-psychotic medication for a few years, which really lowered his metabolism, and combined with the lack of fitness and bad diet, this has left him about 30-40 pounds of unwanted fat.

I have started to train him (after he loses the gut, he wants to put on some muscular size) and at the moment I have put him on the treadmill doing 50-60 minutes of low-intensity cardio (for the moment) 6 days a week and calories have been lowered to around 1800 a day

The diet is fine, however I think it would be a good idea for him to use a supplement to increase fat burn etc, maybe hot rox or similar product

My question is, should he be doing the cardio in the morning on an empty stomach? and would he need a small meal to eat before taking any fat burning supps.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!  :)

 No small meal before cardio.

Cardio is BEST done at anytime of the day but the MORNING is most productive to let the body attack stored FAT. As soon as he wakes up I mean.

I dont mean roll out of bed at 11:45am either...  He has to skip the nightlife and get to bed at a respectable time to be doing cardio at a good time which in my opinion is from 5am-9am.

Have him try Lipo-6. 2 capsules 20 minutes before and 1-2 capsules 4-5 hours later before a meal.

And what about rigth after it? Only protein, or protein+complex carbs?

One thing that you have to take into account with venuto's eating plan is that he'd tell you 6 days a week of cardio at 50-60 minutes is entirely too much cardio..especially at 1800 calories a day..my guess your buddy will burn out pretty quickly...slow and steady is the way to go...clean up his diet, hit the iron and cardio...read venuto's book..it's a bible for fat loss--he tells you to eat and only drop about 15-20 % below your normal calorie intake for effective fat loss...anything lower than that and your are burning whatever muscle your buddy has...he may lose weight but he'd still have the bodyfat...

I highly recommend sprint training if he is able.

20 mins, sprint-walk-sprint-wal-repeat x 3 times a week evenly spread out with weights will burn more fat than 60 mins x 6 low intensity cardio.

Lets not forget the importance of heavy duty weight training when the metabolism is concerned. It's critical both his cardio and weight training is intense and not too long.

True.

HOWEVER, this guy isn't gonna be running fkn SPRINTS. Read his stats again.

30-40 minutes at a moderate intensity. Lipo-6  20 minutes before hand. Right after cardio? Have an ISOpure drink in those glass bottles and then have him eat a decent respectable breakfast an hour after that. Voila!
