The reporter should have started laughing at him when he was locked up like a freak in the back of the cop car.  He's the type of guy who got picked on all through high school and now wants to take it out on some reporter doing his job, classic.

The reporter, Peter Silverman is a real bad-ass.  He's been attacked quite a few times, his job is to search out and investigate frauds and bring them to justice.  He would have knocked that optomotrist guy out cold if he really wanted to.
