of course whole foods are better! they are more filling, but, with work, i cant eat meals like that all day, so the protein powder works good then, but i do prefer whole foods, like eggs, chicken, tuna and steak.

Food is more important but supplements have their place in terms of convenience and specific applications (e.g., pwo shake w/ creatine). People that put themselves in the "one or the other" camp are making a mistake IMO.

Consider night time feeding or supplementation which should be easier to ingest when your stomach is empty. For example, waking up in the middle of the night and eating a cup of low fat cottage cheese (approximately 26g of protein), downing a casien based shake or a combination of bcaa and dessicated liver tabs. With proper planning, I have no problem ingesting 270g-300g protein per day on a consistent basis which is my target range.

I have 2 protein drinks a day (if all goes as planned!) and quite enjoy the taste if it's a good brand.
I don't think they're NEEDED in a diet, but can help by adding a liquid food to make it easier for the digestive system. If you're only having 3 meals a day, I would go with whole foods. More than that, think about a shake replacement.
