He's not giving away his mansions, he's simply allowing people to live there rent free.  He will still maintain full ownership, thus will still be responsible for the yearly property taxes.  The tenants so-to-speak will just have to pay the utilities.   The single moms and their kids living there are still going to be poor.

The families moving into these homes are really in no better financial shape, as any equity gained on the home in the 10 years they are allowed to live there rent free belongs to the owners, not the tenant, and monthly utilities on that home will be huge.  I would guess that the majority of the people who move in there are going to be in for a shock once they get the monthly utility bill.  The cost of central air on that home alone is in the hundreds of dollars per month.

Wow. What a buzzkiller you are. At least now these single moms should be able to attract a mate. I know I would bang a 400lb. Samoan woman just to be able take a dump in a marble toilet and use the bidet afterwards.

I saw this on the news this morning.  Kawamoto I think is also the guy who bought the Kaiser Estate for around $45 million dollars.  It was a leasehold property.  Which means he didn't own the land.  Bishop Estate owned it which is the largest single land owner in Hawaii.  Bishop wanted to convert it to Fee Simple which means they are requesting the owner to buy the lease out and own the property.  They wanted to charge Kawamoto something around $45 million for the Fee.  Kawamoto said fuck you and gave them back the house.  So then they were stuck with a $90 million piece of property they couldn't get rid of.  I think they subdivided it now.  It is right across from my ex's house and around where the Dog Chapman lives.  It was a really neat piece of property and house with its own under-house dock.  I think that is how it went down, something like that.

In regards to these house's in Kahala.  He gave them rent free for 10 years.  And even if the families re poor hopefully they will be able to get enough money just to pay for the utilities.  I have a 2 bedroom condo and my monthly electric is about $180 to $250 a month alone.  Kawamoto is a guy that does some interesting real estate deals in Hawaii and are always controversial.  Very nice deal though either way.  He is something.

Hate to have rained on your parade, but you were making these people sound like they struck it rich or something, when in fact, after paying the monthly utilities will probably have less money then they did before moving in.   Kind of like when Oprah gave away cars to her audience members  and they were hit with the tax bill, which the majority could not afford.  Incidentally, Oprah felt bad and ended up paying for the taxes as well.
