For me happiness = freedom, serenity, overall well being is balanced, zero pessimism.

- I attain my happiness mainly from understanding who I am. Good and Bad. Loving me some me and knowing I was created in the image of GOD. Knowing I will fall down, but as long as I keep believing things will come to pass. I focus on having a kind spirit and being a decent human. I understand not many can walk the walk, so I'm willing to let them see good through me. That's how I attain happiness. By seeing  how people admire and see how genuine I am as a person. I show a lot of love.

- Happiness is important to ME because I feel in order for me to make someone else happy and/or live a life of happiness...you have to be happy with yourself first. If you aren't happy with YOU...there is no way you can show other happiness. You won't know who you are. You will constantly feel you are doing more for others than yourself. You'll feel like you are owed something..etc. which is why I tell people it's SO important to look yourself in the mirror and "call out" yourself. Do the opposite of what you used to do in life. There is a reason the same things keep happening to you over and over and over again.....it's because you KEEP failing the same test. Maybe it's time to look in the mirror and CHANGE. Do the opposite. In due time you won't even notice what kept you unhappy because you'll be so happy.

- Sure psychology can and will help. The "battle" most of us face (stress, temptation..etc) starts in your mind. You allow these things to bring you down. The subconscience mind is the one most of us never pay attention to. It's buried underneath. You never really dealt with it thinking "it" will go away. Or time will fix it. Or meeting your lover will fix it or erase it. Nope....it's going to stay there and those underlying issues that kept you unhappy or you let linger will surface when temptation or stress or depression hits.

All of this is tied together. Just walk around today. Nobody is humble. People walk by each other everyday like their life is so different when we don't even realize WE ALL have the same problems (stress, bills, children, drugs, money, abuse, car broke down, down on your luck...etc) we ALL have more in common then different..but we seem to only focus on OUR problems and try to almost compete that your situation is different or more traumatic when all you need to do is let all that junk go. Stand still. Be a warrior and overcome that mess. Take the high road. It's all a test. The battle is in your mind. Are you going to fold like a tent or be a warrior and keep on going?

The key to happiness is knowing/loving who you are. Accepting who you are. Working harder on your weaknesses and not only your strengths. Zero pessimism (media, radio, he said she said...all that mess) do not participate in that garbage. Be strong minded. Walk the walk and continue to stand still in the mist of ALL your storms. Doing the things YOU do that makes you happy. The focus is on you. This is the one time you need to be selfish when it comes to your happiness. Be above average. Be better than normal.

Once you have achieved this you will be so happy and others will be drawn to you. You will get promoted. Things will happen for you without you even trying. I'm telling you. People will want to do better through the happiness they've seen in you because it's something so rare for them to see. They want to be on your team.

I'm so happy it's a damn shame. LOL  ;D ;D ;D

There are 2 basic human emotions, "good" and "bad". These can be expanded upon; "good" includes joy, enthusiasm, love, etc, whereas "bad" includes guilt, despair, envy, etc. Happiness can loosely be defined as "good" emotions. A good rule of thumb for a happy life is to engage in activities which facilitate "good" emotions and refrain from those which manifest "bad" emotions. Happiness is of paramount importance because it serves to reduce stress levels, which contributes to a longer healthier life. Much like the expression “If we can face it God can fix it”, people cannot better themselves without understanding the root of their “bad emotions”.  Psychology seeks to diagnose the pathology leading to “bad” emotions, which allows people to “fix it”.

Again: Great post.

Happiness = a pretty simple concept, yet it eludes so many people because they do not really know how to acquire it, or the fail to follow the simple rules that leads to it.

Happiness is a state pretty much void of stressors, not a care in the world. Prolonged happiness is a fallacy, people have a baseline level of happiness (mainly the result of their particular neurotransmitter balance). People overestimate the effects on happiness of major life events. Winning the lotery might sound blissful, but the lucky chap will be down to his baseline happiness very soon. Numerous small 'happy' events are generally better then one big happy 'event'.

Being active, social and engage in activities that make you feel happy are good ways to promote happiness.
