UFC 70 - *Spoiler*
« on: April 24, 2007, 04:54:42 AM »
Here's a few comments on UFC 70 - I thought it turned out pretty good, better than expected! I was actually checking with Ticketmaster and was planning for a while to fly to England to watch it live... but I didn't get hold of any good seats. Maybe next time!

Cheick Kongo Vs. Assuerio Silva
Winner: Cheick Kongo Decision (Majority) R3 5:00

- Kongo really needs to get some take down defense, and he needs to start working on that now! A better grappler or even ground n pounded would've easily beaten him on the ground. If he wins his next win will not be up to him - it will be up to the matchmaker. And a few losses in a row in UFC and he will be gone.

Ryoto Machida Vs. David Heath
Winner: Ryoto Machida Decision (Unanimous) R3 5:00

- Some boo'ing from the crowd because there wasn't enough action, still who can blame Machida, no need to brawl just because thats Heath's game... some good knees there at the end of the third round, but nearly all of them hit the body I think.

Michael Bisping Vs. Elvis Sinosic
Winner: Michael Bisping TKO (Strikes) R2 1:20

- Good win for Bisping. I still think he hasn't met any true class champions. Yes he is 14-0, but at least half those wins isn't much to brag about. And I thought he was in trouble when he fought Eric Schafer, I can't believe how he throws his kick out and give grapplers a change to grab hold of it... risking the whole fight for something like that. He's no Crocop. What does he think he will accomplish by kicking all the time? Time will tell if he's as good as he thinks he is. I think the 14-0 is getting to his head a little bit...

Andrei Arlovski Vs. Fabricio Werdum
Winner: Andrei Arlovski Decision (Unanimous) R3 5:00

- Arlovskis problems is mentally. He was the superstar of the UFC when the heavy weight division wasn't very good. After two losses against Sylvia he lost his confidence. He's not gonna be the champ again and he's just not very exciting to watch. People are under the impression he is because his looks, his athelticism etc but when the actual fight starts he just stands there most of the rounds...

Gabriel Gonzaga Vs. Mirko Filipovic
Winner: Gabriel Gonzaga KO (Head Kick) R1 4:51

- Interesting that the only loss Gonzaga has is against Fabricio Werdum! Hard to imagine considering how Werdum did against Arlovski. Upset of the night, who would've fought Crocop would lost, getting KO'ed - and with his own game - kick to the face!
Talk about getting a taste of your own medicine!

The heavy weight division is starting to look really interesting in UFC now!
