Air Force Might Cut Pay for Surge
« on: May 03, 2007, 08:31:33 AM »
The Air Force’s top officer said that if nearly $1 billion in personnel funds taken from the service to pay for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan isn’t restored by the end of the summer, Airmen and civilian employees might not get their pay. Due to a congressional delay in approving a wartime supplemental funding bill this year, the Pentagon pulled about $880 million from the Air Force’s personnel accounts to make up for a shortfall it warned lawmakers would come in mid-April.

“Somebody’s going to have to pay us back,” Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Michael “Buzz” Moseley said. “You have to pay people every day when they come to work.” “A: it’s the right thing to do, and B: it’s kind of the law,” he added. The shortfall could delay permanent change of station moves, temporary duty expenses and other pays that “take care of people,” he said.

Too fucking bad.

Meanwhile, Bush and his boys benefit from all the corporate welfare that the rest of us are paying for.

I'm sticking the IRS with my gasoline bill for last year.

I remember reading recently about National Guardsmen that were called to duty and made to pay for their own transportation and hotel bills. A group of them were getting together to sue in hopes of recouping those costs.

It certainly seems like neither the Democrats or the Republicans care very much about the well being of our soldiers. I'm not so sure Military Brass cares that much either.

NOBODY is cutting anybodies pay..its illegal..we'll all get paid plus it all comes from the same place. The travel pay issue is another question entirely. The system is a mess. Folks overseas who are entitled to travel pay are first in line for obvious reasons. That said i have a buddy who has 13000 grand on his governemnt card and 9 grand on his own card for travel that still needs to be paid. He was the aid to the CG in Afghanistan. The media will make alot of this but there are plenty of safe guards so that we get paid and thsoe NG folks will not get screwed over.

Yikes, I hope they pay the interest as well when the bill is finally settled.

He's paying the interest on that.

The gov't is only going to pay for the actual charges, I bet.

He needs to take the rest out of what he would've sent to the IRS.

Despite the difficulties in recruiting, junior enlisted are still considered completely disposable.

The brass takes advantage of the fact that these individuals are generally poorly educated and have no clue how the system manipulates them.  They are taught by the military that they have no rights, so this is what they believe.

No interest on the Gov card..He'll get the whole bill for his own but he has to submit it up as well as the voucher. The good thing is u get plenty of travel miles.

I haven't known you long but I really can't believe you would buy this line. Congress (bi partisan I must add) could have gotten the troops the money moths ago if it wasn't for the mention of a time table in the bill.

That and the fact that the dems are now backing down. They could have down the benchmark plan months ago and been done with it. Its all political grandstanding to gain momentum for 08'.

They're fighting a war.  What do they need money for?

come on dude, you and i both know its all bullshit.

dems want the country to know they want to leave iraq.
bush is scared history will see that recommendation in light of the shitstorm that the place will become later, and doesn't want the black eye on his legacy.

both sides are just posturing for the cameras.  Neither side is right.

oh - and both sides know we're in iraq for 8 or 10 years, without a f'king doubt.

That is why I said bi partisan. I blame both sides of congress. I don't blame bush this time though because he said daily he woud veto it.

But - he has us 4.5 years, ass deep into a war, and to this day refuses to even tell us any OBJECTIVES for the war.

You see, if he doesn't list any goals, he can't fail.  We've been there 54 months or something, and we have no goals, no rubric, NO MEASUREMENT FOR SUCCESS OR FAILURE.

It's just "stay the course, we are making progress", but they can in no way quantify.

Tell me - would you conduct ANY operation - personal, in the gym, business, etc - without a plan with goals?

See again you read into my post and think I am supporting what Bush has done in the war. I haven't yet done that. I don't like the way the war is being handled, but I know that you agree that we can't pull out. So why can't the congress see that and give the military the money it needs.
