Of course, because the electoral college would still vote.

Rarely does the electoral college go against the popular vote though... It's only happened 2 or 3 times, and each time it was a very close election.

I'm sure if 90% of America voted 1 way, the electoral college wouldn't overturn that vote.

They vote what the populace of each state votes for.

My prediction is that a dem will be in office but we'll be in Iraq long enough to build that pipeline. Before pullout we'll set up a puppet regime that'll allow us to suckle teh oil.

And to answer you original question. I don't think votes are as important as they're made out to be.. I mean Bush cheated twice..  :-\

Redneck states shouldn't have any electoral votes.  8)

No, no... Bush only cheated once... and really, he didn't cheat. The fact that the electoral college still exists is the problem. In todays age, the electoral college should be gone. Without that, Bush wouldn't have won the first tim.

Although, even with it... Had Gore won, it would have been about the same thing... He won as honestly as the other guy would have... Which is "not very".

Now, as far as the second time goes... Well, he didn't cheat... God won.

Rove pulled a "God" card, and it worked... That shows how naive some people are.

It counts toward the EC vote.

The popular vote in a state goes to candidate 1, so the Electoral Vote goes to that candidate... It's not the other way around.

If you don't vote, then maybe the popular goes to candidate 2... so he gets the vote. It can absolutely change the outcome... That's exactly what happened in 2000.

I believe it matters, but when voter turnout is 30 percent... That's just sad.

Our voter turnout is pathetic.  At the state and local levels it is downright scary.  A very small segment of the population can control elections.  Bloc voting often determines winners at the state and local levels.  I think that's what partly contributed to the Republican massacre in 94.

Voter turnout is sad for a number of reasons.  One because many people are too dumb to understand that the things that are on the ballot or certain candidates will affect them.  Then you have a population of people, like women who call into Tom Leykis, who say that they are too busy to know what they are voting for or to even go out and vote.  This is why politicians cater to older voters because they actually care.  Younger and minority voters vote simply on emotion and as such they are seen as less important because their votes are less in raw  numbers.

Cap I think it's much simpler than that.  People are just lazy.  Apathetic.  You can vote by absentee ballot, which allows people to sit on their butts and vote from home.  You do early voting, which allows you to go to "City Hall" and avoid the crowds.  Or you can spend 30 minutes to an hour (in most cases) and vote at your local precinct.

This is one of my pet peeves.   >:(
