Taking it hard, huh?
You should still get a very good player with the 5th pick. Horford from Florida maybe? He might not last until the 5th selection, though.
It sucks because Oden is that defensive presence that the Celts desperately need. A franchise player that you can build a team around. They already got screwed with Duncan. I have faith Danny A will pick up a nice player at number 5 ( if he chooses to do that) Imo the Celts need to get older not younger. The team is already so young, you know? Although Danny has made a few bonehead deals he is good at drafting talent. Just look at the player Jefferson is developing into. Honestly the celts looked a lot worse then they really where last year. They lost 20 games by 5 points or less. Figure into the equation the monster amount of injuries they had, and the huge stretch they lost Peirce for. I am not saying they where a good team, but they where better then what people thought. The team is so young right now. The Jeffersons and Greene's of the world are going to develop into nice players, but that is going to take time. They need to get older desperately. I guess they are trying to work on some deals right now to try and do just that. I know Jefferson was called "untouchable" and that is who teams are going to want in a trade for a big time vet. The way the
It would have been awesome to get Oden, just awesome. I think people forgot there was a 80 percent chance we would not get the fist pick. But the fifth is just devastating. I feel bad for Memphis also. The Celtics, Nicks and the 76ers are on life support. The "cradle" of basketball has been on life support forever. Yet the 2 best guys go to small market teams in the west, which is already loaded. You may think I have sour grapes, which I do. Portland and Seattle benefited from a system they did not create. Cannot fault them for that. We don't even know if the Sonics will stay in Seattle or not. Boston, New York, and Philly have been hard core bball towns since it all started. Not like the teams who draw big attendance numbers because they started winning 5 years ago. I do not mean any disrespect by that statement. You would be surprised by the amount of Celts fans that still went to games, considering how terrible they where. It would have been better for the NBA had these guys landed in the east with big market teams that need them. But you know what, that's not how a lottery works so I congratulate Portland and Seattle ( If they do not move the team that is).
You look at all the banners the Celtics have, think about how they still have the most championships in NBA history. How the mighty have fallen.
