Not true.  I've watched all the video footage there is of both Layne and Jay training and it would be obvious to any objective observer they are close in strength.  On the flat press, Jay handles the 160s with roughly the same form and intensity and Layne handles the 150s for instance.  I've already cited examples of their maximum lifts giving an inflated deadlift for Jay because he has never deadlifted over 495 on video.  Yet you assume he deadlifts more than someone who has been seen deadlifting 550 for reps, even if it is with the trap bar.  This is not the same as saying Layne is as strong or stronger than Ronnie.  In that case, there is no comparison.  I'm simply stating that with Layne and Jay there IS a comparison.  Put another way, Layne could not make it through Ronnie's workout or anything close to it.  However, Layne could make it through one of Jay's workouts with only having to change the weights slightly for each set.  They are comparable and Layne has the videos to prove it.

But forget about my opinion - are you saying that Jay is much stronger than Layne?  Give evidence, including examples of both of their maximum lifts.

matt, i'm not the one that made assumptions stupid, you did. ::)

you have absolutely no idea what a difference it makes in how you perform an exercise do you? never mind the fundamental differences between a p/lifter and a b/builder, do you have any clue whatsoever how easy trap bar deadlifts are performed in the same style layne did?

put it this way, if p/lifters could perform trap bar deadlifts the way layne did with wraps on instead of the traditional comp deadlift, you could add about another 1000lbs to the top d/lifts.

you obviously have no idea about leverage/axis points, acceleration, breathing/vasalva, technical skill (which a bber often tries to avoid) or how rest periods, continuous tension, speed of movement can GREATLY affect the amount of weight lifted.

YOU assumed jay was weaker than layne (yes that was your original point prior to backpedalling) based on 2 competely different exercises performed in a completely different style for a completely different purpose.

I'd bet my ass layne could deadlift 495 traditional style with a straight bar.

Matt, troponin already came in here and said that Jay is stronger and that you are underestimating his strength.  Who else do we have to bring in to convince you?

matt just likes to argue he is the type of a guy that will argue endlessly over height and dick size!

god help us all.

he know's he's wrong, layne's tiny and doesn't even look like he works out anus looks better than him but that is because he has an eating disorder but still he stays leaner than norton the geek.

Fine, then I will backpedal.  But I still maintain that Jay and Layne are generally close in terms of strength.  I cited maximum lifts and explained that Layne would generally be able to handle the weights Jay uses, give or take.   You didn't refute that.  As I said, I also do remember Layne doing stiff legged deadlifts off the rack with 495 just like Jay did.  I will ask Layne about that.  I didn't realize that the trap bar deadlifts were that much easier.  Like I said, I would still bet Layne's maximum deadlift is in the 600s, just like Jay's.  You also didn't say whether or not you agree with this.

you are unbelievable. ;D

you 'cited maximum lifts...' ??? to cite something is to actually refer to something based on fact. you are citing something that you retrieved from your rectum of which is based on 2 completely different exercised performed in completely different ways and for different rep ranges. this would not constitute any factual basis whatsoever.

matt, seriously, you have no idea of that which you are talking about and your bias to those you find attractive is obvious. how on earth can you give a balanced judgement with your reviews when you have this type of bias, not to mention your transparent contempt for those you think use steroids.

Jay is way stronger. He just doesn't care to demonstrate it. I'm sure he could slap on 700+ in his next workout for a single if he wished. There is a definite relationship between size and strength. The amount of pure muscle Jay carries can generate a lot of force. Sure, Layne may have more favorable leverages etc but that's not enough to beat Jay in muscular strength.
