What's with the constant hands crossed across the face thing ? Is it to ward off evil spirits?

Ultraman was the coolest thing when I was 12...a million years ago! It was like the precursor to the Transformers and Power Rangers.

Those old movies were like candy for young kids brains. Gamara, Godzilla, etc. Cheesy now but awesome back then.
