Does Glucosamine really work?
« on: August 24, 2007, 07:59:04 PM »
I've been taking this supplement seriously for 4 months and I really don't feel any change in the pain I feel in my elbows. I use a Glucosamine, Chondritin, and msm blend 6 pills a day, its recommended for 3 a day but I weigh over 280 pounds.

Does any one know how to use it properly weight to serving ratio?
I am a grown ass man

some people will say 1500mg of each is enough but speaking from experience, I'm 260 now and I take 4500mg of each in 3 servings of 1500 each throughout he day.
That's when I noticed the difference.

Like I said some people will say less is better but.......just my personal experience.

hope this helped

i've only been taking three pills a day and feel a difference in my elbows and wrists. I will continue to take the stuff til I see a reason not to. If anything it'll help prolong my joint life if infact it does as advertised. It's no more expensive than a tub of protien powder. Why not!!!

have you ever tried the lotion kind made by VPX? Guy from the gym was rubbing it on his elbow said he could feel results(no pain) in about 5-10 minutes.

part of the issue with glucosamine is not just how much you take it's how much you absorb...  quality glucosamine supplements work better then cheap ones...

2 very important questions...

1.  what type of glucosamine is in the product?  I am guessing it is HCL which is the cheapest form and breaks down the fastest in the bloodstream.  If this is the case I would go get a product that has a blend of N-Acetyl Glusoamine and Glucosamine Sulfate.  These 2 types are more expensive to produce BUT hold up MUCH better in the bloodstream and have a considerable impact on if the product will work.

2.  Is the pain related to a lack or cartilage or is it more tendon related?  If it is clicking/popping it is most likely a lack of cartilage and you are good with the glucosamine BUT if it more like "tennis elbow" or tendinitis you want to focus more on MSM.  MSM is a natural sulfur that helps reduce inflammation, it is extremely safe and helps rebuild stomach lining so it would be hard to overdo it.  Anyway, if you think it could be more this problem I would take 5,000+ milligrams  a day, when my wrists start aching I will take up to 9,000 milligrams a day for about a week.  There won't be nearly enough in your current product which probably has 500 mg's.

Hope this helps.
