The Yanks 26 World Series record...
« on: August 30, 2007, 01:47:04 PM »
Seeing as we're apparently living in the past on this board and glorifying old records that no one cares about, I began to ponder this perplexing problem. Will anyone ever top the Yanks in World Series wins? The next closest team is in the single digits. One of those overglorified teams didn't win a world series for 86 years! Now if you ask me, this is an absolutely amazing accomplishment, a record that will surely stand the test of time. But, I figure I'll ask anyway.

Who do you guys think will break this record? Where does this achievement fall when compared to other team records? I think this record is underrated. A lot of MLB teams can't even get 26 world series over two centuries, nevermind 26 in one, including some of the greatest single season records of all time.

Or rather, Lakers are the Yankees of Basketball.

I doubt anyone ever tops that record. With how competitive the small market teams have become even the big boys cant win em all the time now. In the future you might see more luxury tax. or even a salary cap.

No one doubts the Yankees are the most decorated franchise in the MLB. 26 rings is a big time record.

There is no way the players union would ever agree to a salary cap. It would certainly make things more interesting every year. Every team would start the new year with more optimism and less concerned about competing against the likes of bigger market teams. I think it would be great for baseball.

Anyone agree?

I only made it in response to the Patriots thread to look like an idiot like Body with old records that no one cares about.

Good thing you don't represent everyone. Maybe a more well thought out opinion other than just "no", would clarify your position.

I was going to explain myself but I just didn't have the drive. Let's look at it this way, why should the small market teams be competitive? They don't want to dump the money in to be competitive, they don't have the fanbases to make the sport as popular as it is now with the Yanks, Sox and other big market teams winning. Look at hockey with the salary cap. The games are more competitive, but the Stanley Cup this year was one of the lowest rated sporting events in years. No one cares about the small market teams. Same as it was when the Marlins were winning WS'. No cap is better for the sport because, regardless, the Yankees, Sox and the other big teams are ALWAYS in the news, regardless of whether the suck or not.
